Department Information

The mission of the Department of Music at Colorado State University Pueblo is to prepare undergraduate students to function professionally in their chosen field of music within the larger context of a liberal education, to provide artistic enrichment for the community, and to serve as an artistic resource.

Description of Job

The Lecturer position in the Department of Music instructs Applied Music as assigned (non-major and major levels) and instructs one or more of the University ensembles as assigned. The Lecturer also teaches courses as assigned in the area(s) of expertise, and contributes as a member of one or more CSU Pueblo Faculty ensemble(s). These ensembles perform throughout the academic year on behalf of the CSU Pueblo Department of Music. The Lecturer is expected to actively recruit in their performance and ensemble areas throughout the region as well as to develop a research/creative activity agenda and provide service to the School, College and University. Additional expectations include a willingness to contribute to all aspects of department life including active involvement in the recruitment, retention and mentoring of students; strong communication and organizational skills; and a commitment to community engagement.

Primary Duties

  • Instruct Applied Music in the primary performance medium (Strings - major and non-major levels).

  • Instruct Ensemble(s) as assigned.

  • Teach music course(s) as assigned in the area(s) of expertise; e.g. theory, history, etc., to include String Techniques for students in the Music Education degree emphasis.

  • Participate in the appropriate Faculty Ensemble, which regularly performs on and off campus.

  • Participate in department recruiting events such as All-State Preparation, department auditions, Honor Orchestra Festival, etc.

  • Actively recruit in the state; meet and correspond with prospective students.

Ancillary Duties

Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$41,000 per nine-month academic year

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Music

  • Established record of performance and accomplishment as a performer (High strings, Violin/Viola)

  • Established record of recruiting and building an applied studio (High strings, Violin/Viola)

  • Experience in conducting/ leading university- level ensembles (String Orchestra)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or DMA in Music

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and learners
