Job Summary:

The Design-to-Order Engineering Leader will be responsible for overseeing the engineering process and execution from concept to production, for Trane Technologies’ Air Cooled Chiller Product portfolio based in Pueblo, Colorado. This role will be responsible for overseeing, executing and optimizing the design to order process, in collaboration with cross-functional teams. This leader will contribute to the Air Cooled Chiller PGT’s (Product Growth Team) growth targets to deliver unique solutions to customers. This leader will be crucial in developing and delivering internal design capabilities, aligning to and supporting expanding manufacturing capabilities, and coordinating and utilizing external supply chain capabilities to meet growing and dynamic market requirements.

Where is the work:

Due to the nature of this role, this position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule, with work performed onsite 3 days each week.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of a design-to-order (DTO) engineering process to enable the development and delivery of customized cooling and heating solutions for the commercial Air-Cooled Chiller market segment.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, sales professionals, manufacturing engineers, supply chain representatives, and design engineers, to ensure the successful delivery of DTO projects.

  • Conduct technical and feasibility assessments to evaluate customer requirements and provide engineering and design recommendations for product customization.

  • Contribute to cost, delivery and quality plans and measurable outcomes for DTO projects.

  • Define scopes, timelines, and allocate resources effectively to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

  • Guide design engineers and technicians in creating detailed engineering designs and prototypes for ETO projects, ensuring adherence to product specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Parter with manufacturing teams to enable manufacturing capability development and enable design for manufacturability (DfM).

  • Collaborate with the procurement team to identify and evaluate potential suppliers, ensuring the availability of necessary components and materials for customized projects.

  • Identify and communicate risks and develop mitigations for DTO projects, to ensure successful project completion.

  • Identify and develop skillsets and talent to support a growing DTO business model.

  • Collaborate across product teams and plants to exchange and utilize best practices for DTO projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Mechanical Engineering preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years experience in product development, Design, or manufacturing of HVAC systems.

  • Experience delivering and supporting HVAC products from product development through commercialization, supporting VAVE and sustaining engineering projects

  • Demonstrated understanding of design, manufacturing and quality practices and processes. Proficiency in Lean and/or Six Sigma principles preferred. Familiarity with GD&T required.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, including UL, ISO, IEC, ASME, CRN, and AHRI standards relevant to industrial cooling systems.

Key Competencies:

  • Experience delivering and supporting HVAC products from product development through production launch, commercialization, VAVE and sustaining engineering projects.

  • Demonstrated understanding of design, manufacturing and quality practices and processes. Proficiency in Lean and/or Six Sigma principles preferred.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, including UL, ISO, IEC, ASME, CRN, and AHRI standards relevant to industrial cooling systems.

  • Track record of developing, coaching and collaborating with team members and operators.

Base Compensation Range is $130,000 - $160,000
