Position Title Assistant Director of Programming and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Overview

Provide leadership in developing strategies that advance the overall goals for diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Office of Student Activities, Involvement, & Leadership ( SAIL ), specifically for student clubs and organizations. Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to integrate the five focus areas into student programming. The five focus areas are: structural diversity, access and equity, institutional infrastructure, climate and intergroup relations, formal and information curricula, and student learning and development.

Essential Duties:

  • Advise student club/organizations/leadership and assist with student leader trainings specific to DEI . Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key constituents, including all department within Student Affairs. Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Diversity Taskforce which supports the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and focus areas.

  • Initiate outreach to all student clubs, organizations, and leaders to develop educational trainings to demonstrate a rich understanding of DEI . Provide individual guidance, support, and referrals to any departmental offices with student development programs. Advocate as needed for students needing advocacy services and resources.

  • Assess programs and events for utilization of resources and student participation through data collection to plan the calendar of events. Implement and attend student programming events during late nights and weekends.

  • Direct student leaders to the appropriate resources and provide appropriate guidance. Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Student Activities office. Serve as a Campus Security Authority ( CSA ) as defined by the Cleary Act, and ensure the appropriate, timely, and accurate reporting of crimes on campus, and serve as a Mandated Reporter under Title IX regulations. Coordinate various student groups with DEI resources regarding educational program offerings and assist with larger campus initiatives such as the Student Affairs Diversity Taskforce.

  • Provide support for marketing efforts within the enter office of SAIL . In conjunction with the graduate assistant who handles social media, brainstorm ideas to engage students. Meet with student clubs and organizations to create an effective marketing plan for events and meetings. Utilize Canva and other marketing tools to create advertisements to promote the office, events, and programming.

  • Assist and support the Director and Associate Director with management of the Office of Student Activities, Involvement and Leadership. Assist in the oversight of student workers, including event staff for events. Serve on committees as a representative of the office. Work with staff to ensure all events are properly staffed. Support the office goals of creating an inclusive environment for students specifically in programming and events.

  • Provide support for assessment efforts in the office. Participate in professional development to keep abreast of best practices in the field.

    Marginal Duties:

  • Perform all other duties as may be required.

    Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required.

  • One to three years’ of professional experience in student affairs with significant programming experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Multicultural. programming experience preferred.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Computer literacy, especially concerning computer graphics and desktop publishing.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Schedule will be Monday through Friday 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm during the academic year.

  • Weekend work required.
