Senior Director, Assistant Controller

Position Summary The Assistant Controller will report to the Chief Accounting Officer and Controller and be responsible for corporate and U.S. GAAP accounting, financial close processes, global consolidation, financial policies and procedures, SEC Reporting and technical accounting research. The position will oversee a team and be responsible for providing strong leadership and technical knowledge for the Company and SEC reporting (10K, 10Qs, Proxy, etc). The individual must have a broad understanding of technical accounting matters under U.S. GAAP and working knowledge of tax accounting and compliance, along with the ability to communicate effectively at multiple levels of the organization and on a global basis. The individual will need to be a self-starter in a very dynamic environment with the ability to adapt current processes to support a growing commercial organization.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting:

· Responsibility to lead the process for the preparation and review of the Company's periodic SEC filings (10Q's, 10K, Proxy, etc) in accordance with the SEC's rules and regulations, including maintaining adequate documentation and support for amounts and statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP, (IFRS and other foreign gaaps for statutory purposes) and SEC reporting requirements.

· Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual global financial statement consolidation process, including elimination entries, intercompany transactions, foreign currency transactions and reporting of global financial results.

· Manage the monthly global financial statement analysis and preparation of the global consolidated and U.S. variance analytics on a quarterly basis.

· Support quarter and year-end reporting related to earnings release, including generation of key reports and ownership of financial aspects of release.

· Coordinate with the internal and external auditors during their quarterly and year end audits and other reviews.

· Lead the Company’s technical accounting process to ensure that key positions under U.S. GAAP are documented, tracked and reported appropriately. Provide regular reporting to senior management team and Audit Committee.

· Lead review and implementation of critical accounting policies (for example, revenue recognition for commercial launch and accounting for acquisitions) to ensure that the Company prepares for and maintains compliance with US GAAP.

· Supporting global accounting, business development, tax, FP&A and other teams by providing guidance on the accounting treatment for a wide range of transaction types (e.g., acquisitions, collaboration arrangements, revenue recognition, leases, and debt).

· Manage the U.S. accounting and SEC Reporting teams and provide cross functional, collaborative leadership to the Finance team and Company, as a whole.

· Provide support for adhoc projects.

  1. Financial Systems:

· Responsible for the Company’s financial systems, including NetSuite, Coupa and Blackline, among others.

· Identify and implement new tools and processes to facilitate timely and accurate closing of monthly financial statements.

· Assist the Company in its pursuit of increased global consistency and accuracy, increased automation, and adoption of best practices, where possible.

· Manage the financial systems team, including outsourced service providers.

  1. Internal Controls and SOX:

· Ensure Company’s compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley internal control requirements, including monitoring the execution of financial reporting policies, procedures and controls.

· Collaborate with outsourced internal audit vendor to lead internal financial reviews for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley guidelines on a global basis, including regular interaction with functional business leads in the U.S. and international affiliates.

Requirements

Educational Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and CPA required.

· Master’s in Accounting or MBA a plus.

Professional Work Experience Requirements

· 10+ years of accounting and financial management experience, Big 4 public and multi-national experience required.

· Life science experience, ideally from a revenue‐stage company with internal manufacturing and supply chain capabilities.

· SEC reporting experience and experience negotiating complex accounting issues with external auditors.

· Track record of effectively partnering with others, driving financial results, and successfully rolling out new processes and standards, as well as experience with systems upgrades and implementations.

· Proven experience identifying, recruiting, developing and retaining exceptionally strong talent (evaluated by size of teams led; scaling teams and how that was accomplished; team members who have been promoted/succeeded through this executives' development), forming cohesive teams, and leading them through progressive organizational change.
