Educational Testing Service Mechanic - PHVAC in Princeton, New Jersey

This role is to provide a productive work environment for the employees and systems of ETS. This is accomplished by efficiently producing and maintaining the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, food service equipment, water supply and fire safety systems.

The Mechanic repairs and maintains a wide variety of plumbing, heating, air conditioning equipment and other systems to support this work environment.

  • Maintain and repair major environmental equipment such as boilers, underground storage tanks, air conditioners, chillers and large pumps as well as supporting environmental equipment such as ventilation fans, air handlers and circulators.

  • Maintain, repair and install electronic and pneumatic environmental control systems and Energy Management System hardware.

  • Maintain, repair, alter and install plumbing systems, such as, fixtures, domestic hot and cold water supplies and sanitary waste piping and lift systems in adherence to codes.

  • Perform preventive and scheduled maintenance on plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment and facilities including welding and cutting operations.

  • Maintain, repair and alter food service equipment, such as, steamers, icemakers, walk-in refrigerator/freezers, dishwashers and gas ranges.

  • Maintain and repair equipment used in water treatment, sewage treatment and disposal.

  • Respond to routine and emergency situations, making an initial determination of malfunction; repair or call for additional mechanical assistance.

  • Inspect, alter, repair and install fire control systems including sprinklers, hoses, hydrants, extinguishers and report faulty equipment to the ETS designated safety coordinator.

  • Adhere to ethical standards and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to your job function

  • Provide efficient and cost effective repairs, maintenance and use of PHVAC equipment. This includes the efficient use of time and materials.

  • Provide efficient and cost effective construction and alteration of PHVAC systems.

  • Share with all mechanics, the responsibility for maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the PHVAC mechanic shop and all work areas.

  • Effective communication, documentation and time keeping concerning operations, work orders and maintenance of PHVAC equipment.

  • Perform all duties in a safe and workman like manner using safety equipment and adhering to all Facilities and OSHA safety rules including participation in safety discussions

  • A High School diploma is required.

  • Ability to read, understand, interpret and utilize blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics is necessary is required.

  • A valid driver's license is required.

  • An EPA approved universal Refrigerant certification is required.

  • Four years experience in environmental equipment operation and the equivalent technical knowledge level of the trade typically received through a formal apprentice program is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

  • Basic math and literacy is required in order to operate mechanical equipment and follow maintenance practices, safety and procedural standards.

  • Ability to handle and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. in weight is required.

  • Ability to work occasionally under extreme environmental conditions is required.

  • Ability to perform manual labor activities including climbing to heights in excess of 40 feet is required.

  • Thorough knowledge of working with mechanical equipment and tools is required.

  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and written specifications accurately is critical.

  • Ability to carry out assignments and work well with other employees is critical.

  • Working knowledge of a wide variety of environmental equipment systems and electric motors is required.

  • Ability to perform basic computer tasks for typical use of e-mail, intra/internet communications as well as energy management systems is required.
