Princeton University seeks an exceptional academic leader to serve as its next Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS). Appointed by President Christopher Eisgruber and the Board of Trustees, and reporting to Provost Jennifer Rexford, the Dean is responsible for the quality, conduct, administration, planning, and development of the School’s teaching programs and research activities in partnership with other administrative offices.
The successful candidate will possess an outstanding record of accomplishment in research, teaching, and administration, and will demonstrate uncompromising commitment to academic and educational excellence, to the highest ethical standards, and to the creation and support of a vibrant and broadly diverse community of faculty, students, and staff across SEAS.
The next dean will take office at a critical inflection point in the School’s history. The School’s strategic plan, coined SEAS 2030, has identified key priorities in the areas of research, faculty and student growth, infrastructure, education, innovation and entrepreneurship, and diversity and inclusion. One of the next dean’s most important assignments will be to build on the considerable progress already made in these areas.
Princeton’s School of Engineering and Applied Science is home to an eminent faculty of more than 180 members in six academic departments and eleven interdisciplinary centers and initiatives, and an exceptional student body numbering more than 1,700 undergraduate and 870 graduate students. The current faculty includes 14 members of the National Academy of Engineering and 7 members of the National Academy of Sciences. Annual sponsored research expenditures exceed $90 million. The school is a vibrant and highly collaborative community of teaching, learning, innovation, and exploration, whose members aim to advance the frontiers of knowledge across the engineering disciplines and to apply this knowledge to the benefit and advancement of society.
