JOB SUMMARY
CertifiedNursingAssistantsgenerallyworkdirectlyunderthesupervisionofanRN,orregisterednurse.Often, theCNAhasmoredirectcontactwiththeindividualpatientsthandoctors,specialists,orothernurses.Thisis duetothefactthattheCNAisresponsiblefordirectpatientcareandpersonalneeds. •Meals:Patientfeeding responsibilities.Somepatientswillrequiredirectfeeding,whileothersmayjustneedtheirmealtraybroughtto them and setup. •Oral care, nail care, and basic hygiene.
•Bathinganddressingofpatient.Bathingmaytakeplaceintheformofabedbath,shower,ortub.
•Toiletingofpatients.Oftenpatientswillneedhelpwithmovingonandoffofthefacilities.Somepatientsmayneedhelpwithabedpan.
•Catheter care. Changing of catheter bags and charting amounts.
•Ambulationassistance.Somepatientsneedhelpgettinginandoutofbeds,wheelchairs,bathtubs,etc.
•Vital signs: Blood pressure, pulse, and temperature monitoring.
•Answering call lights.
•Turningofbedriddenpatients.Thisisdonetotaketheweightoffofpressurepointsandpreventbedsoresfromoccurring.
•Changing bed clothes and collecting soiled laundry.
•Light cleaning and organizing of patients’ room or area.
•Relayingandchartingrequestedinformation.Thismayincludemoods,vitalsigns,mealconsumption,liquidintake,anddailyBMandurineamounts.
•Relaying information to the next CNA on shift, or to the nurse’s in charge.
•Recreationalactivities,suchasassistingwithawalkoutdoorsordeliveringreadingmaterialtopatients.
•Postmortem care.
UnderthesupervisionofanRN,performsbasicpatientcareactivities.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Certification of Certified Nursing Assistant within 30 days of hire
Must be able to obtain BLS within 60 days and maintain during employment.
