University of Maine System Veterans Coordinator in Presque Isle, Maine

The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking to hire a Veterans Coordinator to work as part of the Office of Students Records (Registrar’s Office). The Veterans Coordinator serves as the School Certifying Official (SCO) and Point of Contact, certifying student enrollment to the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DOD) while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations. This position provides transitional, academic, and career support services to military-affiliated students.

The normal annual salary for this position is $43,888, depending on skills and experience. Key Responsibilities include (not limited to):

  • Manage communication with current and prospective military-affiliated students using a variety of modalities

  • Certify students’ enrollment each term to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) for benefits, maintaining compliance with VA statutes

  • Manage state Veterans Dependents Education Benefit

  • Administer Department of Defense (DOD) tuition assistance for participating branches

  • Develop assessment tools to capture the wants and needs of military-affiliated students and analyze the resulting data

  • Meticulous and organized maintenance of the comprehensive military-affiliated student records- required for Compliance Audits or Student File Audits

  • Participate in required SCO training workshops and webinars to keep up with all compliance changes or updates

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • An Associate’s Degree is required. Education requirements may be waived on a year-to-year basis for candidates with substantial related work experience

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to function as a team member

  • Experience with automated student information system

  • Experience with college-level curriculum

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills

  • Experience working with college students is preferred

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of higher education veterans’ benefits

  • Knowledge of Google Drive and One Drive

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets
