Summary:

A physical therapist assistant (PTA) provides directed physical therapy treatment under the supervision of a physical therapist. The PTA provides skilled physical therapy services to patients throughout A.R. Gould’s acute care floors, Acute Rehab, swing beds, skilled nursing floors, long term care floors, outpatients at both facilities. Physical therapy means the evaluation, treatment and instruction of human beings to detect, assess, prevent, correct, alleviate and limit physical disability, bodily malfunction and pain from injury, disease and any other bodily condition; the administration, interpretation and evaluation of tests and measurements of bodily functions and structures for the purpose of treatment planning; the planning, administration, evaluation and modification of treatment and instruction; and the use of physical agents and procedures, activities and devices for preventive and therapeutic purposes; and the provision of consultative, educational and other advisory services for the purpose of reducing the incidence and severity of physical disability, bodily malfunction and pain. S/he will have demonstrated adequacy of being prepared to provide these services. These professionals are expected to see patients and use their professional and clinical judgment in all aspects of care, from critical care patients to outpatient care. S/he must demonstrate the ability to multi task and provide the highest quality of care to our patients, while recognizing the value and dignity of the individual.

Responsibilities:

• Follows a physical therapy treatment plan of care as set by the physical therapist • Demonstrated competency in completion of all documentation requirements • Reviews treatment effectiveness with supervising therapist as needed and required by licensing agencies • Collaborates with patient, family and referral source throughout treatment to enhance outcome
