Responsibilities

As a GroupMe Server Engineer on the team, you will:

• Gather requirements, investigate, design, implement, test, and maintain services and infrastructure that have impact on our product.

• Collaborate with product and client teams to develop features that delight millions of users.

• Engineer solutions that enable high throughput of data at a global scale, embracing best practices for scalability, stability, and performance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience.

• Knowledge and commercial experience with all the flavors of web services (HA, Scaling, Resilience, Monitoring, …) owning projects from start to finish – from inception to maintenance.

• Experience with software quality, combined with agile delivery.

• Experience with software engineering best practices (e.g., design patterns, unit testing, code reviews, …).

• Ability to effectively collaborate with teammates. Gain and share knowledge on daily basis!

• Experience taking the initiative by identifying, documenting, and designing engineering solutions.

• Minimum experience and knowledge of services development best practices and methodologies with things such as Linux, Git, Docker, Cloud Technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.), etc.

• Minimum experience and knowledge of object-oriented programming preferably Golang and Ruby and working with databases both SQL and NoSQL.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

• OR related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,

• OR Python

• OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

• OR equivalent experience.

• Preferred experience of Kubernetes, Redis, Kafka, DynamoDB, ElasticSearch, PostgreSQL, TDD, Dev-Ops would be advantageous.
