Southern Ohio Medical Center Pharmacy Tech Employee Pharmacy in Portsmouth, Ohio
Works closely with and under the direct supervision of the Pharmacists. The Pharmacy Technician's primary job function includes assisting the Pharmacist in the preparation and dispensing of medications in the employee prescription area, inventory and stock replacement, and assuring the appropriate billing for employees.
High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
Enrolled in, completion of a board approved Pharmacy Technician training program or National Certification required
Successful completion of National Qualification test required
State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy Technician Registration required
Pharmacy Technician training program or certification or prior technician work experience preferred.
Ability to maintain a customer service orientation to professionals, patients, and hospital employees. Willingness to work under direct and indirect supervision. Ability to work well as a team member. Accuracy in following directions.
Essential Technical/Motor Skills:
Finger dexterity required to manipulate unit dose medications and syringes in an aseptic manner. Requires ability to enter information into a computer.
Essential Physical Requirements:
Requires standing and/or moving/pulling carts throughout the hospital departments up to 75% of the day. Requires lifting up to 30 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. or less frequently.
Essential Mental Requirements:
Analytical skills to sort medications and pharmaceutical supplies, make calculations and maintain records. Knowledge of basic medical terminology and generic/brand names of drugs desirable. Attention to detail and ability to follow directions required. Must be able to read, write and communicate in an effective manner.
Essential Sensory Requirements:
Sufficient vision to perform duties.
Exposure to Hazards:
Tasks involve very low exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Minor risk to hazardous chemicals (acids, etc.)/biological/and chemotherapeutic agents exist.
JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Prepares doses of medications for dispensing pharmacist.
Assists pharmacist in filling outpatient prescriptions in prompt, courteous, and accurate manner.
Enters employee prescriptions into computer system (dispensing and billing purposes).
Provides prompt, efficient, and courteous service to pharmacy window and telephone inquiries; takes messages when necessary or directs inquiry to the appropriate person.
Prepares weekly/monthly reports for Hospice & Pharmacy Director
Places daily order from Amerisource to assure proper quantity of necessary stock for outpatient area.
Performs daily back-up in computer system and monthly updates.
Responsible for general cleanliness of work area/department.
Problem solves issues with computer vendor.
Works well with pharmacy benefit administration to effectively manage prescription benefit.

Engage in the compounding of any drug.
Package or label any drug.
