Doernbecher Children’s Hospital (DCH) Operating Room, a unit of OHSU’s Perioperative Services Division and OHSU’s Women’s and Children’s Division, is located on the 8th floor of DCH. DCH is opened 24/7 and maintains 7 operating rooms and 2 procedure rooms that primarily address the surgical needs of both inpatient and outpatient pediatric and young adults with congenital conditions ages neonate to 25). Surgical procedure on 25 and above may also be performed. Service lines can include Cardiac/ Thoracic, General Surgery, Gynecology, Oral maxillofacial surgery, Dental, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, Spine, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Transplant, Urology, Vascular Surgery, Robotic, Gastrointestinal, and Trauma. Surgical procedures on adults 18 years of age and above are also performed if the procedure requires specialized equipment found only at this location.

DCH inter-operative staff work as integral part of an interdisciplinary care team to provide individualized family centered care for the pediatric and adult congenital patients in the perioperative setting. We provide care for ambulatory, inpatient, and urgent/emergent surgeries. The RN is responsible for assessing and providing direct patient care in both the circulating and scrub roles.
The RN provides care consistent with ANA standards, OSBN nurse practice act laws, AORN recommendations, and current evidence based practices. Nurses are responsible for participating in continuous improvements in our unit to increase the value of care we provide our patients. In the shared governance system, the RN is also responsible for helping grow the nursing profession and guiding the future direction of the unit. RN’s are required to take fair share of call in the unit which is guided by the unit’s shared governance system.

Minimum requirements for all RNs:
Associate or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
BSN preferred
Associate Degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.
Current unencumbered Oregon RN license by 1 week before the start date.
Current BLS certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) by the start date.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Minimum 2 years current operating room experience
Specialty certification preferred CNOR
Pediatric OR experience
Orientation:
- Length of orientation: 8-12 weeks based on experience (scrubbing, peds, and trauma)
