Job Title: General Laborer

Job Description

Custodians are responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of a variety of University facilities, including academic spaces, administrative offices, athletic facilities, and student living and dining areas. Daily tasks will be performed based on the needs of the campus, assigned work orders, or designated projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide custodial care to assigned areas or as part of assigned projects.

  • Perform a variety of tasks to meet cleanliness standards, including picking up waste, cleaning up messes, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and cleaning windows.

  • Thoroughly and effectively clean restrooms, including sinks, toilets, urinals, showers, counters, floors, and mirrors.

  • Clean specialty facilities and equipment on campus, such as athletic facilities, labs, kitchens, laundry rooms, showers, classrooms, study rooms, lobby areas, offices, and TV lounges.

  • Proactively identify areas for extra cleaning and take necessary steps to resolve any discovered issues.

  • Report any facility issues to the appropriate shop or supervisor through the work order system.

  • Respond to special or emergency circumstances such as spills or health safety-related situations, which may include cleaning biomedical waste such as blood or vomit.

  • Remove trash from common areas, dump trash cans, and perform campus trash runs if needed. May help with recycling duties as needed.

  • Perform special projects such as deep cleaning of areas and carpet/floor care.

  • Respond to work orders and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

  • Provide events and facilities support for assigned University-sponsored events, both on and off campus.

Essential Skills

  • Verified record of attendance

  • Ability to stand/walk for 8 hours

  • Comfortable with custodial job duties, including mopping, sweeping, and other custodial tasks

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in cleaning, janitorial, housekeeping, or environmental services

Work Environment

Frequently, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, twist, bend, use fingers and hands to handle materials, tools, and/or equipment, and reach with hands and/or arms. The employee must frequently lift, move, or use items or equipment ranging from ten to thirty pounds with or without assistance. Occasionally, the employee is required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Employees are asked to use good judgment, prioritize safety, and ask for assistance or use relevant equipment when necessary.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, Oregon.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.14 - $17.89
