Providence Division Chief Real Estate Officer - Central in Portland, Oregon

In a world of disruption and increasingly complex health care challenges, the Division Chief Real Estate Officer - Central will partner with Divisional, Regional and Ministry (Hospital) Executive Leadership teams and manage vendor relationships to deliver successful business solutions that improve health outcomes and contribute to an exceptional experience for caregivers & patients. This position is also responsible for delivering consistent processes and governance in alignment with the enterprise delivery model to ensure financial stewardship and performance in the management, operation, and evolution of the real estate portfolio.

This position reports to the enterprise SVP, Chief Real Estate Officer. The Central Division CREO is the accountable leader of a team of approximately 2,000 caregivers within the broader Providence Real Estate Strategy and Operations (RESO) team. This position is a member of the RESO Executive Team and is accountable for the Providence real estate portfolios in Oregon, Eastern Washington, Montana, Texas, and New Mexico, including 22 hospitals and 715 clinics or support locations totaling 22.3 million square feet.

The DCREO partners with operations, Shared Services and the Division Strategy team to develop and execute strategic real estate plans that will support the goals of both the individual markets and Providence as a system. This position is responsible for the delivery of all real estate services including Planning & Design, Construction Project Management, Facilities Engineering, EVS, Life Safety, Physical Security, Real Estate Strategy, Transactions, Parking & Transportation, Property Management and Lease Administration, as well as the development of budgets to proactively manage the financial performance of the real property assets within the defined markets.

DESIRED OUTCOMES

The Division Chief Real Estate Officer will be evaluated on performance of objectives, consistent with those of peer DCREOs, including:

  • Recruit, hire, manage, and retain successful Division RESO leadership teams within each market in support of our Mission

  • Proactively partner with Regional and local executive leadership to refine and implement portfolio strategies and optimization

  • Build and maintain relationships with service area and ministry leadership teams to ensure RESO services are exceeding all expectations

  • Communicate and prioritize the implementation of system wide RESO standards for design, construction, real estate, operations, asset management and productivity by service

  • Deliver capital projects within the expectations related to scope schedule and budget

  • Achieve the optimal strategic and financial performance of the real estate portfolio

  • Serve as the RESO executive to Division, Region and Local leadership and executive councils, as appropriate

  • Represent Providence and our Mission externally as the real estate executive of the Central Division with AHJs and the real estate industry

  • Deliver the expected outcomes and financial performance related to all owned, managed, and leased sites in each market

  • Provide the evaluation, selection, acquisition, and disposition of owned and leased sites consistent with market and system strategic goals

  • Ensure technical standards, policies, procedures, and governance are followed and constantly improved

  • Oversee the transactions and management of all owned and leased facilities within the portfolio, consistent with STARK and applicable regulations, bond finance rules and follow the guidelines established by Providence Risk & Compliance

  • Maintain regulatory compliance with AHJs including JCAHO and CMS standards as applicable to hospital licensed space and ensure that policies and procedures that govern this area of accountability are documented and followed

  • Govern the selection of local vendors / partners while adhering to established system standards and policies

  • Develop and deliver on capital action plans for each budgeted year, plus a rolling 10-year working capital plan

  • Prioritize in collaboration with operational leadership, approve, and manage funding for capital projects and equipment, including monthly updates and forecasts related to cashflow and commitment intervals

  • Travel throughout the Division and across the system as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred degree in healthcare real estate asset management, design, construction, facilities or environmental services, and / or healthcare

  • Master’s degree in business administration, real estate healthcare administration or finance, plus at least 10 years successful leadership is optimal

  • A minimum of at least 10 years successful leadership experience
