The Opportunity

The Director, Automotive Electronics Hardware Architecture, reporting to the Executive Director of Platform Architecture and Prototyping, is responsible for leading teams to create detailed hardware (electronic) architectures; that optimize connectivity, power distribution, and performance management of various vehicle embedded systems​​​.

What you’ll be able to do?

This person will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of automotive electronics hardware architecture strategies in alignment with Ford's business objectives and technological advancements.

  • Manage a team of hardware architects to design and optimize electronic systems for vehicles, ensuring reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define hardware requirements, specifications, and standards for automotive electronic components and systems.

  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate new technologies and hardware solutions for automotive applications.

  • Oversee the selection of components, materials, and suppliers for automotive electronic hardware, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in automotive electronic hardware design processes and methodologies to enhance product performance and efficiency.

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal and external stakeholders on automotive electronics hardware architecture best practices and emerging trends.

  • Stay current with industry trends, market developments, and regulatory requirements related to automotive electronics hardware to inform strategic decision-making and innovation.

Functional & Technical Knowledge The minimum requirements we seek

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science or Software Engineering.

  • 15 years experience in EE hardware leadership in automotive.

  • A proven record of team creation, transformation, and leadership.

  • In-depth knowledge of automotive technologies; including vehicle electronic and control systems, ADAS, infotainment systems, connectivity solutions, and electric vehicle components

  • Expert in defining physical system architectures that meet functional requirements for running features on vehicles, ensuring seamless integration and operation.

  • Expertise in vehicle electrical architecture, CAN bus systems, and vehicle network communication protocols for efficient component communication.

  • Experience in software and firmware integration within vehicle systems to enhance functionality and performance.

  • Ability to define precise requirements and specifications for technology components, considering power consumption, data flow, and compatibility.

  • Ability to conduct comprehensive feasibility studies, technology assessments, and performance optimizations to drive innovation in vehicle architecture.

Our preferred requirements

  • Masters degree preferred.

  • Experience in implementing embedded systems including for safety critical embedded systems.

  • Experience of embedded Linux, RTOS and related DevOps systems.

  • Demonstrated time in role leading a large multi-disciplined organization focused on delivering development efficiency.

  • Excellent communication skills both up and down the organization to achieve the desired results.

  • Critical Thinking: Demonstrated examples of applying systemic thinking, logic and reasoning skills to be able to identify opportunities, alternative solutions or approaches to problems.

  • Organizational skill: Strong collaboration skills, clear and concise direction coupled with an ability to move within the organization to complete work and balance tradeoffs.

  • Strategic thinking: Demonstrated examples of driving strategy from concept through to Production.
