Oregon Health & Science University Certified Nurse Assistant in Portland, Oregon
The Certified Nursing Assistant is part of the health care team in locations throughout OHSU. The C.N.A. provides direct or general nursing care to patients from admission through discharge under the direction of a licensed nurse and within the parameters of the state licensing board. The C.N.A. assists the patient, patients' families, nursing staff and other support staff to assure the delivery of safe, quality care in alignment with the mission and vision of Doernbecher Children's Hospital and OHSU.
Assist with the admitting and discharge
Obtain accurate vital signs and weight. Gather and secure patient valuables
Complete all unit specific CNA documentation in the patient’s medical record related to: admissions, daily care, vital signs, weight, intake and output, discharge, etc.
Ambulate patients, provide aides as directed for safety and notifies nurse of additional needs
Respond to call lights, assure that call light are within reach at all times. Seek assistance of the nurse or other health care personnel as needed
Assist with or lifts/transfers patients and perform other position requirements safely
Perform all duties necessary to assure delivery of prescribed diet and to meet all dietary needs
Empty commodes, bedpans, urinals, foley catheters, colostomies, urostomy, and other drainage receptacles/containers as directed. Collect and test specimens as directed (urine, stool, other)
Assist the patient with or perform basic hygiene
Assist with turning/positioning patients as indicated or directed. Assure good body alignment, comfort, range of motion (ROM), and support
Assume responsibility for professional/job related development, knowledge of advances in technology, use of new equipment and appropriate application of hospital systems. Disinfect or discard equipment/supplies appropriately
Provide and obtain shift reports with appropriate personnel when necessary or as directed
Incorporate quality improvement practices into performance
Incorporate the principles of OHSU’s Mission Statement into performance
Understand the teaching and research missions of OHSU Hospitals and Clinics
Support patient and family centered care across the continuum through service coordination
Perform staff member requirements as outlined in the Compliance Section of the Core Competencies
Adhere to the OHSU Code of Conduct
Perform requirements for Staff Members as outlined in Compliance Roles and Responsibilities in OHSU Hospitals and Clinics:
Carry out job responsibilities in an ethical, effective and professional manner.
Report potential compliance problems using the reporting processes as outlined in the Code of Conduct.
Model ethical and appropriate behavior, professional standards, compliance, and personal integrity.
Participate in training programs.
Understand and comply with the Code of Conduct, OHSU and departmental policies and procedures, applicable rules and regulations.
High School Diploma or GED
Oregon CNA Certification at time of hire BLS required at time of hire, issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
Previous pediatric clinical work experience in an inpatient setting.
