Job Summary

This position is responsible for analyzing and communicating data to assist in decision making to deliver quality healthcare and meet organizational goals. This analyst will work with a team focused on areas including health equity, quality metrics, health care utilization, social determinants of health, and health plan operations.

Essential Responsibilities

Areas of Focus

  • Analyze and investigate data.

  • Convert data into actionable information.

  • Enable data-driven organizational strategies.

    Data Collection

  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to identify, refine, and deliver data products tailored to the customer needs and specifications.

  • Utilize organizational data storage and data sharing tools.

  • Collect, compile, and organize healthcare data from a variety of sources.

  • Independently and as part of a team, perform quality assurance on data to ensure validity and accuracy.

    Data Analysis

  • Investigate data patterns and trends.

  • Apply advanced analytic methods including statistical analyses to develop information.

  • Identify and propose areas for further investigation.

  • Apply standards of equity and transparency in data evaluation.

    Communicating with Data

  • Design and develop data visualizations to share information.

  • Ensure communications are accurate, timely, relevant, and free of bias.

  • Work with partners and stakeholders to create information which best serves the audience who will receive it.

    Documentation

  • Maintain appropriate records, information, data product documentation and reports.

  • Maintain data development history for future work or audit purposes.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

    Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of data repository and information exchange technology

  • Knowledge of healthcare operations, policies, practices, and technologies

  • Robust understanding of organization data storage and data sharing tools

  • Advanced understanding and skills with business intelligence tools and technologies

    Core Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong data analytics skills

  • Advanced skill in report data storage and sharing frameworks, such as SharePoint, Tableau, MS Reporting Services, or other vendor-specific systems such Epic Cogito/Clarity

  • Proficiency with data querying and cleaning tools: Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, R, MS Excel

  • Proficiency in technology to assist with daily work and complex project management, including Microsoft Office suite and collaboration tools (e.g., Mural, Jira, and Confluence)

  • Ability to understand and analyze data from a variety of sources common to health care settings, including claims, enrollment, demographic, financial and clinical information

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups

  • Ability to make fair and data-based decisions

  • Possess a high degree of initiative and motivation

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with diverse contributors and decision-makers

  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and competing deadlines

  • Ability to actively listen, understand and respond to stakeholders

  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships, consensus, and collaboration

  • Ability to manage multiple, parallel projects involving highly matrixed teams

    Physical Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn, focus, understand, and evaluate information and determine appropriate actions

  • Ability to accept direction and feedback, as well as tolerate and manage stress

  • Ability to see, read, and perform repetitive finger and wrist movement for at least 6 hours/day

  • Ability to hear and speak clearly for at least 3-6 hours/day

    Cognitive Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to focus on and comprehend information and learn new skills and abilities

  • Ability to assess a situation and seek or determine appropriate resolution

  • Ability to accept direction and feedback, as well as tolerate and manage stress

    Education and/or Experience

    Required:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in data analytics and business intelligence

  • Experience using current business intelligence tools

  • Established track record of producing accurate and complete data to serve organizational goals

    Preferred:

  • Bachelors or advanced degree in healthcare analytics, data analytics, data science, statistics, or related field

  • Experience with healthcare claims data

  • Experience with equity in data science
