University of Maine System Lead Facilities Maintenance Worker CL2 (Custodial) in Portland, Maine

The University of Southern Maine is seeking candidates for Lead Facilities Maintenance Worker CL2 in our Custodial Services department to support intercampus moves and on-campus events and conferences.

Work Schedule & Location: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Monday through Friday, with nights & weekends as needed.
Pay and Benefits: Pay is $21.99 per hour. This is an essential position with the expectation that incumbents report to work on snow/storm days and other days when campus is closed.
Responsibilities:
This position leads facilities workers in intercampus moves as well as on-campus events and conferences, including setups and teardowns.
May be asked to assist with custodial duties and responsibilities, including cleaning, operating cleaning equipment, using cleaning chemicals, removing trash, moving furniture, reporting maintenance concerns, etc.
Enforces safety and procedural standards.
Places orders for supplies and maintains necessary materials and equipment.
Coordinates project steps and the activities within the project of the assigned crew
Inspects work to ensure assignments are completed according to specifications and standards.
Explains processes, procedures, and standards to employees.
Required Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), or international degree equivalency, and sufficient experience including four (4) years of building maintenance or custodial work experience, or experience related to moves operations and/or events/conference support.
Proven ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Proven experience getting along with co-workers, supervisors and building occupants.
Proven ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
Effective communication skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or exert more than 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects, be capable of standing for extended periods of time, and flexible enough for bending and reaching.
Must have a valid driver’s license that meets the UMS APL requirements as outlined here (https://www.maine.edu/apls/apl-ii-b/) .
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience leading a crew or coordinating small projects such as moves and event set ups.
