General Summary:
The Director of Small Business Sales Talent Onboarding is responsible for driving a successful and repeatable onboarding process for new Small Business Sales Consultant Associates (SCAs) and recently rolled out Small Business Consultants (SBCs). This includes accelerating SCA/SBC understanding of what we sell (products, services, capabilities), and our How-To-Win (HTW) strategies. The incumbent will advance SCA/SBC knowledge of the Small Business “sales machine”, educating and consulting on how the sales process works including how to leverage critical support tools (SFDC, APT, Pools, etc.). The Director will advise on how to best run individual blocks of business, through the use of proven sales practices (WILOs, follow up techniques, etc.). This Small Business Sales leadership position will consult SCAs/SBCs on how to present to the market, including soft skills, position, follow through, etc. This position will be responsible for driving the strategy behind a comprehensive process to train, educate, and prepare an SBC for production delivery early in their tenure.
This role can be located in a current Hub, Field Office, or remote location.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for providing managerial training and onboarding support for all SCAs during the defined training program
Serve as a mentor and SME for recently rolled out SBCs, providing guidance on how to apply training principles to specific broker and client interactions
Assist and coach SCAs/SBCs in translating product design, benefits, and application to successful line placement and premium generation in the market
Perform stand & delivers and role-plays with SCAs/SBCs highlighting consultative selling approaches, Unum differentiators and value propositions, and high value responses to objections
Demonstrate best practices relative to new broker interactions, activity generation, DILOs/WILOs, and territory management
Drive regular huddles/interactions for all SCAs and recently rolled out SBCs, with a goal of reviewing actual business scenarios for discussion and best practices (ex. pricing, pool management, new broker calls, etc.)
Partner with the Learning and Development team on improvements to the training curriculum, with a focus on SCA comprehension and effective utilization of learning/principles
Serve as the managerial conduit between the SCA, the training team, and the Sales Director, sharing feedback on training evaluations, opportunities for development, etc.
Complete SBC milestone evaluations and review with Sales Director to identify strengths and development opportunities
Partner with Sales Directors, SB Leadership, and the L&D team on the sales internship program, including talent evaluation and potential for transition to a Unum sales role
May perform other duties as assigned
Job Specifications
Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years relevant experience preferred
Prior experience in ancillary benefits sales preferred, proficient with Unum products, the sales/distribution process, Broker relationships/management, and closing cases
Proven track record of personal success in sales generation, training, or process management
Ability to manage numerous priorities with the ability to synthesize feedback, coaching, and guidance to sales professionals
Licensed to solicit insurance or the ability to obtain insurance license within 60 days
Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor new sales professionals
Ability to successfully communicate and collaborate with internal and external partners, with a focus on persuasion, influencing, and motivation
Demonstrated experience with sales process evaluation, improvements, and focus on efficient production
Strong experience with broker and client viewpoints/priorities, issue resolution, and techniques to drive overall satisfaction and growth
Energized by helping new sales professionals grow and succeed
High energy, enthusiasm, and passion for the employee benefits industry
High capacity for work, adaptability, and resilience is a must
Expert skills with MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Excel

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$89,900.00-$169,900.00
Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
