University of Maine System Camp Counselors - STEM Camp (Temporary) in Portland, Maine
Are you a motivated self-starter who enjoys working with individuals of all ages? The University of Southern Maine is seeking STEM Camp Counselors and welcomes the opportunity to speak with you about this winter, spring, and/or summer opportunity!
The University of Southern Maine’s STEM Outreach Program (https://usm.maine.edu/stem-outreach/) is part of the College of Science, Technology and Health (https://usm.maine.edu/college-science-technology-health/) and oversees the Maine Robotics programs (https://www.mainerobotics.org/) , along with the Southworth Planetarium (https://usm.maine.edu/southworth-planetarium/) , and coordinates numerous K-12 STEM outreach programs that reside at USM. Training is provided either during the first week of camps and/or the last week of June.
The STEM Camp Counselor is responsible for day-to-day operation of the day camps. Each camp consists of up to 16 campers, ages 9 to 17, depending on the camp. Responsibilities include working with the campers and other staff, giving short educational presentations to the campers, securing the facility (room), resolving equipment problems, and in general providing mentorship for the campers. Camps may include local (walking) field trips or transported field trips.
Camps are offered in December (Winter break), February (Spring break), April break, and Summer (June – August). Camps covered under this position would include :
LEGO Robotics camp
Build Your Own Computer Camp
3D Design and Printing Camp
Programming Minecraft Camp
SeaPerch underwater remotely operated vehicle camp
Algae camp
CubeSat camp
and any other single- or two-week offerings that are currently available.
Compensation: Ranges from $16.00 - 19.00/hour dependent upon educational attainment, degrees, and experience.
Supervises: Up to 16 campers.
Duration: 1-6 weeks depending on location. Counselors are expected to work up to 40 hours per week.

Experience working with children and/or technology is required.
Background in education, sciences, and/or technology is desirable but not required.
