Portage Public School AT-Risk Paraprofessional in Portage, Michigan

Paraprofessional - At-Risk

7.5 Hours Per Day Portage Community High School * *$13.52/Hour+

*Job Summary: *To engage at-risk students improving their deficiencies, thereby giving them the opportunity to develop the organizational skills necessary for success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Directed Learning Room supervisor identify student deficiencies.
  • Assist teachers, counselors and principals identify students whom are failing courses.
  • Implement intervention strategies to assist students to succeed in their academics.
  • Provide supplemental instruction and assist students with organization skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
  • Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Employee Handbook.
  • Monitor student grades via PIV to document increased organizational skills and academic achievement.
  • Provide written documentation to Assistant Principals and Principals regarding student participation, student achievement, staff referrals and any student behavioral concerns.
  • Implement remedial programs academic areas with individual or small groups of students.
  • Assist in the assessment of student progress.
  • Communicate frequently with teachers.
  • Assist in behavior management efforts.
  • May perform some minimal clerical functions.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. 
  • The equivalent of 2 years of college (60 semester credits) or an Associate's degree or higher *OR *the successful completion of the MDE approved Paraprofessional standards test (ETS).
  • Experience working with children. 
  • Demonstrated abilities in the area of interpersonal communication.
  • A high degree of patience, ability and willingness to learn new skills and take direction.
