Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Children's Religious Experience Teacher, Job Description Updated 09/26/2024 The Children's Religious Education Teacher at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (OUUF) provides children and their parents/guardians/caregivers with kind, respectful, and caring activities. Our program strives to foster compassionate individuals that side with love and work toward justice. The Children's Religious Education Teacher reports to the President of the Board of Trustees.
Job responsibilities, general tasks, and requirements:
- Develop weekly lesson plan that teaches one or more of the UU Shared Beliefs and Values by:

``` - Demonstrating or modeling the behaviors associated with the Shared Beliefs and Values through storytelling, games, or other interactive activities. - Providing opportunities for reflection and discussion on the Shared Beliefs and Values.

``` - Adapting the UUA, LREDA or Quimper UUF curriculum as appropriate for small class sizes where there may be different students in the classroom each week and limited class time (no longer than 1 hour). Provide structure and safety for playtime. - Ensure that two adults will be present in the classroom at all times. - Ensure that all children are cared for appropriately; seek assistance as needed. - Attend to concerns or needs that a parent/guardian/caregiver shares regarding CRE. - Communicate with parents/guardians/caregivers of children attending program, keep them informed of:

``` - Current activities (can provide suggested activities for home). - Classroom behavioral expectations. - Upcoming activities and educational opportunities.

``` - Draft monthly report of program highlights and updates for the Board of Trustees.
General qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Strong behavior management skills that rely on positive discipline, redirection, and child-centered techniques.
- Be self-directed and able to complete all tasks on time without direct supervision.
- Able to work as a team member with other OUUF staff/volunteers.
- Able to work comfortably with a range of personalities, treating all persons with respect and equity.
- Communicate effectively, professionally, and compassionately orally and in writing.
- Establish boundaries and maintain confidentiality with respect to all Fellowship activities and member concerns/needs.
- Be cognizant and respectful of Unitarian Universalist Shared Beliefs and Values.

``` - Pass a background check.
Education and experience:
- Demonstrated knowledge of and training with children or a related field.
- Possess valid Children's CPR and First Aid certificate. This may be completed during the first month after hire. If your certificate is not current, the fellowship will pay the renewal fee.
- At least one year of experience with childcare and/or teaching of infants/toddlers is necessary.
- Experience with teaching and managing older children is desired.
- Experience with classroom materials management.
