This position will support both Trinity Oakland and Trinity Livonia Location(s).

The Business Manager is responsible for budget preparation and monitoring for the O.R. and Surgical Services Departments. In collaboration with the Directors, he/she coordinates capital purchases, cost containment efforts and quality assurance measures. Develops accounting monitoring systems/reports for the O.R. and Surgical Services Departments to support monitoring of operational and financial performance. The Business Manager supervises designated non-nursing personnel and maintains a system to ensure a safe and efficient physical environment in designated areas of responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares the budget (revenue, expense, volumes, and capital) for the O.R. and Surgical Services Departments with input from Clinical Directors and Supervisors.

  • Assists Directors with preparation and control of personnel budget.

  • Performs monthly budget review and control utilizing appropriate management reports and provides variance justification to Clinical Directors.

  • Initiates and coordinates cost containment measures for O.R. supplies in cooperation with the Purchasing Department, vendors and physicians.

  • Responsible for management of billers and materials management personnel in the O.R. which include hiring, maintenance of employee records, work schedules, payroll, evaluations, counselling, corrective action and termination.

  • Determines staffing requirements and job assignments for areas under his/her directions and makes recommendations to Clinical Directors as indicated.

  • Monitors the purchase and maintenance of adequate supplies and equipment for O.R. and Surgical Services Departments.

  • Meets with sales representatives, physicians and/or supervisors as indicated to review need for new equipment, gather justification, specifications, and determine costs for Clinical Directors' review and decision.

  • Provides oversight for materials management within the departments which includes: evaluation of new materials, supplies or equipment, and Clinical Directors utilizing summary of costs, ease of use, and product; and provide input into inventory management for volume and price.

  • Coordinates Preventive Maintenance/Quality Control programs for all equipment and the physical environment. This includes negotiation of all preventive maintenance contracts, collaboration with supervisors to identify obsolete equipment and supplies, and coordination of environmental inspections jointly with O.R. and Environmental Services personnel.

  • Maintains a comprehensive orientation/in-service program for employees under direct supervision. Collaborates with Purchasing and Finance Departments to maintain an effective patient charge system for the Departments.

  • Collaborates in the development, accomplishment and evaluation of annual goals for the Department and his/her area of responsibility.

  • Serve on various Committees as appointed by the Clinical Directors. Responsible for all financial and operational reporting within the department including month end reporting, financial analyses and proformas, key performance indicator tracking, and other reports as instructed by surgery leadership.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, the Trinity Health Organizational Integrity Program, including the Standards of Conduct, Code of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behaviors.

  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, associates, and visitors to Trinity Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospital Administration or other health care related field required.

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the areas of budget preparation, analysis and inventory control.

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in supervision.

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in the area of health care, surgical experience highly desirable.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Computer skills, including programming and network administration.

  • Computer knowledge necessary to effectively utilize hospital systems.

  • Excellent customer service skills necessary to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.

  • Knowledge of and comfort with healthcare statistical and quality tools.

  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and the ability to influence others. Demonstrated coordination and collaboration skills

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively listen, present, discuss, report and explain performance improvement issues to an audience with various levels of expertise

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs other duties as assigned.
