The Optical Communications segment recently re-profiled its business from the production of fiber optics, cables, equipment and hardware to the provision of innovative end-to-end optical solutions for the telecommunications industry. The segment has been divided into two main product groups: carrier networks and enterprise networks. The product group within carrier networks primarily includes products and solutions for communications infrastructure based on optical technologies in terms of video, data and voice transmission. The product group within company networks primarily includes communications networks based on optical technologies sold to enterprises, government entities and private individuals.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

  • Functions as a technical resource and design owner of assigned product lines. Responsible for ensuring fit/form/function of existing and new products

  • Responsible to participate on teams to resolve performance and customer related issues; propose product enhancements, opportunities for standardizations, and cost reductions

  • Supports project execution between development and plant manufacturing as an impartial 3rd party with the expertise to balance risks between business demands and product assurance

  • Member of Product Team responsible for Cost Reduction development and execution.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Clarify, understand, and document customer requirements, product specifications and product application

  • Ensure Fit, Form, Function through appropriate qualification test plans, design control and change approval while balancing speed to market and profitability

  • Quickly and effectively respond to customer and commercial requests for rapid product changes and new product introductions in cooperation with Technology and Regional Engineering

  • Drive technically rigorous root cause analysis for product integrity issues

  • Support and validate cost reduction opportunities through product lifecycle

  • Standardize product specifications, materials, and components

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical area/Engineering degree

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in development, product, or process engineering

  • Proficient use of English and French language, able to clearly present technical concepts, written and verbally

  • Must be a self-starter, able to work in team environment and motivate others

  • Strong interpersonal skills to be able to build relationships and participate in diverse teams within cross-functional groups and international locations

  • Experience with optical cables will be beneficial

TRAVELS:

  • Less than 20% Travel, some international
