Job Description

Occupational Therapist

Date: July 1, 2016

Reports to: Director of Special Services

Supervises: Students

Qualifications: Certification by National Registration Exam

Job Goal: Plan and implement therapeutic activities to assist special education students to benefit from their academic experiences.

Employment Terms: 10 Month Contract

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Evaluation: Annually by Director of Special Services

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 50 pounds

Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 100 pounds

Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Plans and manages program implementation to meet the IEP goals.

Provides training to the appropriate persons to carry over therapy goals in the school setting.

Maintains therapy room and equipment.

Implements program services which include: self-help, functional mobility, environmental adaptations/adaptive equipment, positioning, motor functions, sensory processing, provocation/vocational skills.

Functions as a team member for MEEGs, IEPs and maintains contact with school, family, physicians, and agencies.

Screens, evaluates, and reassesses to develop IEPs.

Formulates OT policies and procedures.

Schedules students for evaluation and treatment.

Assigns and supervises caseload and responsibilities of the COTA.

Conducts an annual re-evaluation to determine need for continual services and files a written report.

To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employees eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employees supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.

Performs all other tasks as supervisor may assign.
