Become a Principal Manager, Major Construction Projects at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll be responsible for leading a group of 8-10 Project Managers and Senior Project Managers executing a portfolio of small to large projects with a total CapEx of $300+ million annually.
Execute on projects from conception through design, material acquisition, construction and closeout;
Fiduciary responsibility for entire portfolio;
Manage contract performance;
Provide risk analysis of portfolio;
Resolve emerging issues on projects
Field visits with major customers
This position requires strong prioritization skills due to the sheer volume of projects. A major focus of this position is the interconnection of utility scale renewable energy projects, making it critical for resource adequacy, SCE’s Countdown to 2045, and state of California energy policy. The position will also be part of the Major Projects Organization (MPO) leadership team’s planning and policy setting activities for the MPO organization.

Provide leadership, set expectations, oversee work performed by managing activities according to established policies and procedures. Establish performance metrics and provide regular updates to executives on project progress, including corrective actions as appropriate.
Executing a portfolio of the multi-year infrastructure projects for the Company with the potential to impact the Company’s long-term strategies, reputation and credibility with regulators, the public, shareholders and the investment community.
Represent the Company with major customer executives, NGOs and political leaders on projects of regional and state significance including high speed rail, critical oil production, new manufacturing, interconnection with municipalities and other utilities, clean energy resources, and major events such as the World Cup and Olympics
Obtain complex environmental, regulatory and government agency approvals to enable project execution. Ensure regulatory and corporate project compliance to minimize financial, legal and public impacts to the Company. Negotiate with contractors, service providers, property owners and regulatory agencies related to projects on behalf of the Company. Devise strategies and tactics to manage and mitigate corporate risk.
Direct the development of, review and approve external relations strategies related to projects, including interviews with media and meetings with local, senior state or federal politicians, regulators, and officials. Prepare Company officers for congressional and legislative testimonies.
Accountable for cost, scheduling, budget, engineering, contract, material, permitting, construction, customer/ client relationships, risk analysis, and paper closure of all designs under Project Manager team responsibilities. Substation and Transmission includes Civil, Electrical, and Controls disciplines. Responsible for financial governance, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) certification for AOR.
Provide direct oversight on particularly challenging or impactful emerging technical issues related to projectdevelopment and execution. Support new and innovative technical and construction techniques.
Establish performance expectations and goals aligned with Company objectives, policies and procedures. Manage, train and develop staff by providing timely feedback, coaching and support.
Qualifications
The essentials
7 years of experience managing/supervising a technical organization and/or construction project management experience including scope, schedule and budget
10 years of experience in utility or power, design and/or construction projects
The preferred
BS, MS or MBA in engineering, construction or related technical discipline
PMP or other Project Management Certification
Professional Engineer Certification
Experience leading a diverse team focused on innovation, change management and employee development
Environmental permitting, mitigation and monitoring experience
Experience in T&D systems design, construction or operations
Experience in various forms of contracting including Design Bid Build and EPC contracting
Experience leading major engineeringconstruction for utility or infrastructure projects
Experience with project controls software including Primavera scheduling software
Experience with utility regulation and licensing in CA, including environmental permitting and monitoring
Ability to build a positive relationship withcontractors and internal/external project stakeholders
You should know
This position’s work mode is hybrid . The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
