Naval Air Systems Command COMPUTER SCIENTIST in Point Mugu, California

Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. Responsibilities You will support all of the systems within the Sea Range Systems Division as a Computer Scientist. You will operate within a team of engineers, technicians, scientists, and IT professionals to accomplish projects and support ongoing operations. You will assist in the project management, design, procurement, integration, and maintenance of new and existing IT systems. You will perform system administrative tasking in a dynamic environment of legacy and modern technology including embedded software, VMware suite, and in-house software platforms. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications For the DP-03 level your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the DP-02 pay band or GS-5/9 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting with the design and development of Software products; 2) Utilizing embedded software, Windows-based systems, and/or VMware suite within a given project; and 3) Assisting in managing software updates, patching, scanning, and troubleshooting issues as they arise. For the DP-04 level your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the DP-03 pay band or GS-9/11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Designing, developing, programming, and maintaining software programs; 2) Performing software engineering related to tactical software, operating system software, compilers, assemblers, file managers, data reduction, information retrieval, network analysis, etc...; 3) Managing software updates, scanning, patching, and troubleshooting issues as they arise; and 4) Creating scripts, tools, and processes to improve efficiency of enterprise environments. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education BASIC REQUIREMENTS: ALL applicants must meet the basic education requirements in order to qualify for this position: Bachelor's or higher degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Evaluation of Education: Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable. The following education may be substituted for specialized experience: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree Additional Information If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management.
