State of Massachusetts Physician III - Pocasset Mental Health Center in Pocasset, Massachusetts

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking an experienced Physician to assist in the care and treatment of individuals with the Pocasset Mental Health Center Inpatient Unit. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading, directing, and/or providing all complements of the medical support program. The Physician sets and maintains standards required for certification and accreditation; supervises and oversees the multidisciplinary staff; delivers primary medical care and treatment to all clients; reviews and authorizes the utilization of all medical support services; and administers the medical clinic in conformance with the policies and procedures of the treatment program. The Physician participates in direct client care and supervises and consults with other licensed staff providing direct client care. It is expected that the Physician will be engaged in client care related activities as well as managing the business and administration of the medical support functions. Please Note:The work schedule is 20 hours per week, working Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30am to 5:00pm, with Sunday and Saturday as days off. Schedule to be determined. Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive): * Provide direct medical care, medical management to patients from assigned units and to any patients who are seen in the medical clinic. * Makes referral to outpatient specialists or acute care providers for patients as necessary. * Makes referrals to specialists as needed. * Conducts History and Physicals on a timely basis. * Makes recommendations to patient’s treatment team on medical problems to be included on patient’s treatment plan. * Consults with attending psychiatrist on the medical management of patient’s medical conditions. * Participates in the development of medical practice guidelines and disease management protocols. * Assures that performance and care meet quality indicators for regulatory agencies (Joint Commission, Board of Registration of Medicine, Department of Public Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid). * Maintains the integrity of the medical record through timely and effective clinical documentation that complies with utilization review requirements. * Provides legible documentation in any paper portion of the medical record. * Participates in committees as requested by the Facility Medical Director. * Participates in medical clinic performance improvement activities. * Provides supervision to the Advanced Practice Medical Nurses. * Responds to medical emergencies within the facility. Requirements: * Current and valid registration as a physician under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine. Preferred Qualifications: * Appointment as a designated forensic psychologist, preferred. * Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine through experience and training. * Ability to identify and to manage medical emergencies. * Ability to identify need for referrals to specialists or medical facilities. * Experience in working collaboratively in an inter-disciplinary treatment setting. * Ability to consult with care providers from other facilities or outside specialists and to convey continuing care needs to attending. * Ability to work with hospital’s patient population who present with complex chronic and acute psychiatric and medical disorders. * Ability to maintain accurate records, and to communicate effectively in writing and oral expression. _DMH Vision and Mission:_ The Department of Mental Health, as the State Mental Health Authority, assures and provides access to services and supports to meet the mental health needs of individuals of all ages, enabling them to live, work and participate in their communities.
