Sr. Specialist Production Planner

We are building a new state-of-the-art facility in Pleasant Prairie, WI. Training for this position will take place at our North Chicago location temporarily and transfers to Pleasant Prairie will take place once operations begin.

Job Opportunity:

The focus of the Production Planner position is the scheduling and daily trimming of the Consumer Paperboard paper and/or converting machines. The Production Planner works closely with customer service, logistics, mill personnel, and other stakeholders to manage the mill production schedule in a manner that allows for an orderly flow of production to customers, while minimizing costs. The incumbent will be accountable to take full ownership of machine schedules and to constantly seek opportunities to improve trim efficiency, customer satisfaction, and asset utilization.

How you will impact WestRock:

  • Ensure customer satisfaction by: trimming orders within customer tolerance, and ensuring on time delivery by maintaining run cycle integrity. Assist account representatives in providing acceptable solutions that meet customers\u2019 requirements.

  • Effectively manage the master schedule to ensure orders are sequenced to meet on-time delivery. Minimize impact from schedule deviations. Continually monitor mill schedule adherence and execution.

  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly scheduling related reporting requirements to measure performance to plan. Report machine backlogs and Production Planning KPIs.

  • Manage/move capacity between blocks in the schedule as needed to support customer requests.

  • Continuously look for innovative ways to improve trim efficiency and reduce waste. Maximize machine utilization.

  • Download and trim orders in production runs, ensuring that 3-7 days of shop floor schedule is maintained for each assigned machine and/or extruder.

  • May require trimming across multiple machines in multiple locations, therefore must understand impact of cost, delivery, and freight

  • Work with the production planning manager to create the machine production schedule. Maintain the block schedule out for 90 days.

  • Work with operations personnel to adjust production schedules during emergency situations.

  • Communicate regularly and effectively with manufacturing personnel to ensure runs are sequenced to meet customer/company objectives.

  • Performs necessary rework based on unexpected mill outages/downtime.

  • Weekend/after-hours on call support as required (part of a rotation).

Education and Experience* Bachelor\u2019s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or related discipline.

  • 3-5 years scheduling, customer service, logistics, inventory management or process manufacturing experience required

  • Experience working in an ERP suite (SAP, JDE) ERP)

  • APICS certification is highly desired
