Micro Paradox Planting Technician/ General labor in Pleasant Grove, California
CSP Labs is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented Planting Technician/General Laborer to join our seed health laboratory for a 4- to 6-month term. The candidate will be responsible for assisting with growth chamber assays for the detection of plant pathogens.
Responsibilities
Assist end-to-end with our seedling PCR Assay (a growth chamber-based assay) Count, divide, and label seed samples; plant seeds, chop seedlings, and wash and bleach medium sized bins Strictly follow proper sample handling and aseptic techniques to prevent cross contamination Follow verbal instructions to assist with the completion of routine work Basic computer tasks such as data entry, scheduling, and printing Proper care, handling, and tracking of seed, plant, and/or soil samples on paper and on a computer Operate various types of equipment such as grinders, air dryers, centrifuges, etc. Basic liquid handling with pipettes Basic cleaning of laboratory equipment (washing glassware/containers, cleaning lab space, etc.) and general lab housekeeping Assist with other lab tasks or processes as needed Work under greenhouse and field conditions Handle pesticides, bleach and chemical reagents
Requirements
The seedling PCR assay is a routine, fast paced, high throughput, physically demanding process. The incumbent will be expected meet the needs of the process Must be willing to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time and lift up to 40 lbs Able to follow verbal and written directions. Good verbal and written English comprehension skills Can be trained to carry out basic steps of routine protocols with little to no supervision; independent worker Able to work up to 6 hours overtime on Saturdays as needed Comfortable with Gmail, Microsoft Word, and Excel Proactive listener/learner: asks questions to ensure clarity Must be a team player and respectful to others Possesses elementary mathematical skills (can count accurately and perform basic calculations)
