SUMMARY

This is an in-house underwriting position that will build relationships with agents while growing a profitable book of business. This position will be focused on larger, more sophisticated builder’s risk projects and other complementary products for general contractors and developers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be required.

  • Underwrite and analyze new and renewal insurance business. Insurance lines include; Builders Risk, Property, General Liability & Umbrella/Excess.

  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules, rating manuals and guidelines, insurance laws, regulations and surplus lines taxes.

  • Negotiate terms and conditions, while assessing risk effectively.

  • Work within broad limits and authority on complex assignments.

  • Market companies' products and services through an agency plant.

  • Ability to navigate online rating systems and approval/issuance process.

  • Process quotes for new and renewal business in a timely manner.

ASSOCIATE RESPONSIBILITIES

Must follow all agency workflows, guidelines, and procedures including, but not limited to the contents of the Associate Handbook. Must immediately report all malfunctions of Nexsure software and any other hardware, software, system or equipment to the appropriate individual.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

TRAVEL REQUIRMENTS

This position will require very minimal/if any travel.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION/BACKGROUND Minimum 5 years commercial underwriting experience in Builders Risk/Inland Marine. Experience with General Liability and Umbrella/Excess are a plus. Must be able to work independently and build strong client and company relationships. Bachelors Degree is desired.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS must be deemed to effectively speak, read, write, and effectively comprehend English. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Must posses basic math skills. Ability to perform these basic operations using units of American money and weight measurement, and volume.

Ability to calculate premiums based on exposures and rates. Ability to apply payments and/or refunds to specific invoices and item numbers.

INDUSTRY REQUIREMENTS

Licensing and designations preferred but not required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to anticipate and resolve future problems before they occur. Ability to solicit assistance when necessary. Ability to problem solve beyond conventional solutions (think outside of the box). To think and act at all time in the best interest of the Agency, Customer, and Carrier.

Disclosure required under applicable state or municipality regulations: The expected salary range for this position is $50,000-$70,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level.
