JPMorgan Chase Executive Director/Control Manager - Commercial Banking Governance Head in Plano, Texas

Controls and Continuity Services (CCS) within Commercial Banking (CB) is seeking leadership of the CB Control Management & Governance Team which drives a variety of work across Control related initiatives and governance processes. This team is critical to supporting CB's Control Management discipline including a high degree of collaboration with many partners across the CB Control Community and the Firmwide CORE Program, and conducting highly visible work for the CB CEO and CB Executive Management Team. This versatile role would include work related to control projects and initiatives including emerging risk topics, supporting key control meetings, leading CORE across CB, driving strategy of CB's operational risk strategic application, and engagement of CB Control Partners in information sharing and learning. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to create and execute strategies that focus on minimizing risk and expanding on the operational health for all aspects of CB globally.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute the strategies for CB Control Management Governance, CB CORE, and Aggregate Management of Operational Risk (ArMOR) application.

  • Hire, manage and motivate a team in managing operational risk and communicating CB risk environment to senior management.

  • Establish a holistic framework for these areas that includes practices that minimize risk and supports overall functioning of CB Control Management.

  • Institute control governance and reporting to identify meaningful metrics to inform on the health of operational risk and control environment; escalate control deficiencies based on key reporting indicators; and manage control committees and forums.

  • Manage execution of firmwide CORE program within CB

  • Facilitate engagement of Business Operations Executive (BOE) organizations across CB and coordination across various operational risk disciplines.

  • Govern framework for Risk Events, Issue Management, and other control points in partnership with the control management community across CB.

  • Oversight and coordination of operational risk messaging to senior management including control calls, CB and Firmwide Control Committees, Audit Committee, and various other control updates.

  • Ensure cross-LOB engagement and coordination across all control disciplines.

  • CB Control Management updates to key Regulators on regular basis and ad hoc as needed on specific topics.

  • Drive Lessons Learned reviews across CB of select items raised by second line of defense (LOD), third LOD, legal, high severity issues, external events, external losses, and other items as applicable.

  • Partner with and influence key stakeholders within CB and ensure they are aligned on strategy, are provided with business transparency and that their needs are represented in every major decision.

  • Advisory role in audits, MRA responses, regulatory exams and issue management.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across CCOR, risk, audit, regulatory and technology control functions to drive consistent and rigorous operational risk practices and control programs.

  • Influence business practices, key decisions, policies, strategies, internal controls and standards to drive change through continual evaluation of the operational risk and control framework and continual communication with functional and operational leaders.

Required Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in operations, operational risk management, process improvement and project management in a sophisticated global banking environment. Prior experience in control management desired.

  • BA/BS degree

  • Proven leadership, execution and influencing skills

  • Strategic thinker who understands and supports the goals and direction of the firm
