The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a dedicated Director, Product Management for the Life Company Product Management Team. This individual will serve as a significant and critical contributor to the strategic direction of Life Company’s product road map development, delivery of product roadmap, driving innovation and maximizing the value of the products to best serve the membership. This Director will be responsible for leading a high performing team of life insurance product managers with a strong background in the Life Insurance industry. This position will play a critical role in setting the direction for production over the planning horizon while continuously adjusting utilizing industry knowledge, market data, and member insights to formulate recommendations to executive leadership based on analysis of profitability, competitiveness, and sales performance. This individual oversees new product launches, modernization of administration platform and ensures alignment with business’ vision and strategic direction. They will work extensively and collaboratively with internal stakeholders to support delivery and sustainment of industry leading product offerings, acts as a thought leader on managing through agile methods to increase member value, and to optimize cost to serve, as well as, partner with USAA executives to ensure current and future requirements are met.

This Director will manage a team of individual contributors responsible for formulating product/sales strategy recommendations based on analysis of profitability, competitiveness and sales performance for the product life cycle. Compile, analyze and interpret data to make strategic and tactical recommendations or decisions pertaining to sales/product performance. Responsible for defining the business questions and providing insights to improve business performance. Supports the maintenance of existing products and/or may lead in the development and launch of less complex, new products with channel partners.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC. or Tampa, FL.

What you'll do:

  • Responsible for communicating and promoting the product value proposition to Distribution organization.

  • Ensures product team delivers sales support to all distribution channels (e.g., .com, mobile, contact center) so that the product is properly positioned to customers (sales tool and collateral development, sales training, etc.).

  • Develops new product or sales offerings and enhanced features/services to existing product or sales offerings.

  • Leads research, analysis and evaluates performance metrics to drive recommendations for market opportunities or product enhancements.

  • Leverages resources to gather data and member information to support formulation of product strategy and acquire competitive intelligence.

  • Partners with appropriate stakeholders to develop communications for product and pricing strategies to key stakeholders and committees within the respective COSA and the enterprise.

  • Builds and oversees a team of employees for assigned functional area through ongoing execution of recruiting, development, retention, coaching and support, performance management, and managerial activities.

  • Interprets performance results to inform product or sales forecast and planning.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Supply Chain, Statistics, or related discipline OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree. (Total of 12 years of experience without bachelor’s degree)

  • 8 years of relevant industry experience in Actuary, Underwriting, Marketing, Distribution or Sales/Service or Finance/Accounting Operations or Financial Services.

  • 4 years of product management, or similar strategic management experience (similar experience includes direct support in managing product performance).

  • 3 years of direct team lead or management experience.

  • 3 years of Data Visualization experience (i.e. Tableau).

  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (i.e. FDIC, CFPB, OCC).

  • Experience Owning, Forecasting, and Managing a Product P&L.

  • Experienced in market research to create product roadmap, make product decisions and iterate rapidly.

  • Expert knowledge of applicable product related regulations and, risk and compliance requirements

What sets you apart:

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

  • 4 or more years of Life Insurance Industry Experience

  • 6 years of progressive related experience developing strategies, managing major initiatives, and delivering results within a complex matrix environment.

  • 6 years of people leadership experience in building, managing, and/or developing high-performing teams

  • 4 years proven experience leading change and optimizing member benefit and business performance.

  • 3 years proven track record of partnering to set direction and plan for delivery of member, relationship and product production working with marketing and channel partners.

  • Advanced knowledge and wide range of expertise in life insurance products, processes, and systems.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience working with executive stakeholder audience, which comprises a broad span of organizational levels.

  • Current Life License

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $143,320 - $273,930 .

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
