JPMorgan Chase AVP, Senior Counsel - Global Financial Crimes - Legal in Plano, Texas

The Legal Department of JPMorgan Chase & Co provides legal services and advice to the Firm globally. Legal is responsible for, among other things:

  • managing actual and potential litigation and enforcement matters, including internal reviews and investigations related to such matters

  • advising on products and services, including contract negotiation and documentation

  • advising on offering and marketing documents and new business initiatives

  • managing dispute resolution

  • interpreting existing laws, rules and regulations, and advising on changes thereto

  • advising on advocacy in connection with contemplated and proposed laws, rules and regulations,

  • providing legal advice to the Board of Directors, the business and functions, and

  • Selecting, engaging and managing outside counsel for the Firm on all matters in which outside counsel is engaged.


The responsibilities for the Senior Counsel, Global Financial Crimes Legal ( GFC Legal ), include the following:

  • Supporting GFC Legal's provision of legal advice and transactional support to the business, compliance, and other legal or control groups on issues related to anti-corruption, anti-money laundering (AML), know-your-customer (KYC) requirements, and economic sanctions laws and regulations

  • Assisting internal JPMorgan Chase (JPMC or the firm) counsel as well as outside counsel, as necessary, in legal and investigative matters related to anti-corruption, AML, and sanctions laws and regulations

  • Drafting and negotiating financial crime contractual terms and conditions in a variety of financial relationships and contexts across different jurisdictions

  • Analyzing anti-corruption, AML, and sanctions enforcement, regulatory, and legislative developments, including advice and analysis regarding policy impacts and outcomes, and implementation of related enhancements to the firm's compliance programs

  • Providing legal advice on the development and periodic review of the firm's anti-corruption, AML/KYC, and sanctions policies and procedures

  • Attending internal meetings and governance/oversight committees to provide legal advice on relevant anti-corruption, AML/KYC, and sanctions matters

  • Advising and supporting special projects (long and short-term) arising from the administration of the firm's global anti-corruption, AML/KYC, and sanctions programs, and the provision of GFC Legal's services, such as knowledge management, workflow, and communications

  • Performing other tasks and matters that may be required of the Legal department from time to time

  • J.D. required

  • An understanding of banking, investment banking, securities brokerage, and asset management products, services, and transactions strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with anti-corruption/Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), AML, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, and Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) regulations

  • Familiarity with the regulatory framework for a large, global banking organization offering products and services across multiple jurisdictions preferred

  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • 3-5 years of legal experience practicing with compliance-related investigations, litigation, and/or financial services regulatory matters

  • Self-starter with an ability to foster and maintain solid client relationships and collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders around the globe as a trusted legal advisor in a multi-functional, multi-jurisdictional environment

  • Ability to multi-task and effectively manage multiple matters simultaneously in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  • Confidence and experience translating complex legal concepts into practical solutions

  • Creative solution and problem solving skills

  • All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment

  • Attorney must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing of the bar association in the state/jurisdiction in which the position is based or otherwise in compliance with the in-house counsel registration rules of that state/jurisdiction
