BlackBox AV Project Engineer in PLANO, Texas

Purpose of Job:

The AV Project Engineer plays a vital role in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of various types of audiovisual, videoconferencing, and IT-related systems. You will design, specify and manage the installation of Audio Visual integrated systems while supporting the Project Manager and leadership as required. Responsible for the technical oversight of projects from award through installation and completion. You will also identify special requirements for the projects, including but not limited to: test equipment, specialized tools, and rigging support.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:

  • The AV Project Engineer is responsible for technical oversight and continued support of Black Box’s Audio Visual Projects from award to installation and through completion.

  • Review project Scope of Work (SOW) to certify quality and completeness for numerous customers and varying site locations. Review hour estimation for work based on needs analysis SOW and bid requirements.

  • Facilitate the creation of AV installation drawing packages to include RCPs/Elevation diagrams and final as built wiring diagrams

  • Be the Subject Matter Expertise (SME) for AV systems, designs, documentation and components while using industry standard calculations and best practices.

  • Provide engineering support for project installation as well as technical oversight on commissioning of systems both in-house and on-site.

  • Meet with current/prospective vendors to help evaluate products while staying current on latest AV technology trends, technology and vendors.

  • Develop engineering and architectural (RCP/Floor Plan) drawings calculations acoustical modeling as needed. Design wall plates and overlays.

  • Identify and address technical or logistical impediments to delivering SOW, and special requirements for projects including but not limited to: test equipment specialized tools rigging support.

  • Test audio DSP or video processing systems software required for system functionality and test integrated systems and perform troubleshooting when needed

  • Responsible to assist and update the Project Manager on budget, project status, while assisting with securing the necessary personnel for installation. Support Project Manager in project hand-off to the installation team when needed

  • Review project designs created by internal and external resources and submit to CAD department. Review field and shop red-line drawings revise shop drawings to "as-built' status for submission to CAD department.

  • Other duties as required.

  • Ability to travel to various job sites required.

Education / Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or an AV related field. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as an AV Field Engineer or a similar role.

  • Experienced and Proficient in CAD.

  • Experience with both Crestron and AMX control system. Crestron Programming Certification is preferred.

  • ACE certification and experience In C# and HTML5 is strongly preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with people are essential.

  • Experience and Certifications in QSYS, Biamp, Cisco and Polycom highly desired.

  • Requires someone with a high attention to detail and extreme sense of urgency.
