Context/Scope:

This is a significant role which must provide experienced leadership in Engineering and Maintenance within one of Diageo’s largest production sites. Plainfield is the key Innovation and Technical Center for Diageo North America and as such produces significant levels of new product innovations each year to drive growth for the domestic market.

Purpose:

Provides essential leadership support in the areas of Safety, Plant Maintenance, CAPEX Budgeting and Planning, Project Management, Asset Management and Environmental Compliance.

Key Outputs:

  • Significant responsibility for CAPEX (>$5M annually), packaging changes, and line standards

  • Expertise in process, design, change parts, and engineering required for the proper planning, budgeting, design, and implementation of capital projects and other special projects

  • Incumbent assumes a key role in Safety, Quality and Food Safety and serves as an asset to the overall Plant Governance Programs Program

  • Assures equipment reliability to increase production line productivity measured through Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE)

  • Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative within the Engineering & Maintenance Department, and that has significant impact on the overall operation and safety of the Plant. Makes recommendations and justification for Capital programs, projects and spending.

  • Decides type and extent of plant engineering and related programs for accomplishing strategies and objectives of NA Supply organization

  • Is instrumental in developing Strategy for long-term success of the site

  • Directs several subordinate managers, team leaders and supervisors

  • Leads Plant Capex budget, Department budget and Maintenance budget

  • Builds the capability of Engineers, Maintenance personnel and craftsmen.

  • Tracks standard manufacturing and warehouse measures and prioritizes plant maintenance opportunities.

Functional and Managerial responsibility:

  • Handles day to day working and professional relationships to facilitate the operation and effectiveness of the overall plant with the Plant Management Team, Sales and Technical Suppliers, Industrial Associations, Regulatory Agencies, Technical Operations, Central Engineering, Finance and Procurement

  • Identifies areas for improvement in line efficiencies, safety, quality, cost, processes and personnel

  • Apply plant and consulting resources for handling multiple projects and teams

  • Provides engineering and technical expertise to achieve safety goals and lowest cost while providing high quality products and customer service levels

  • Identify, implement and promote Technology to improve efficiencies, productivity and reduce cost. Prepare and submit annual operational and CAPEX budgets in line with production volumes.

  • Work within the Minimum Control Guidelines as prepared by Diageo.

  • Uses Root Cause Problem solving techniques to resolve ongoing or immediate Plant issues.

  • Remain abreast of changes in processing and packaging equipment, plant utilities, insurance regulations and government compliance related to plant operations, Problem solving, develop and implement solutions

  • Develop and meet annual Engineering & Maintenance operating plan, budget and schedule for all plant projects

  • Embed Diageo culture, principles and values

  • Meet internal/external customer needs

  • Ensures CARM Compliance

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • 4 year Bachelors Degree or equivalent. Preferably in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, chemical, etc)

  • Minimum of 8 years of Technical/Production/Engineering/Maintenance Management in consumer product manufacturing

  • Demonstrated success as a manager in a production organization

  • Experience leading multiple projects technically and financially

  • Able to set objectives, define roles, assign tasks, motivate to success

  • Exhibits outstanding team building skills

  • Strong Partner management and Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to influence, persuade, convince, compromise, build consensus and able to resolve conflict

  • Technical Competence: In-depth knowledge of project management, technical operations and engineering

  • Professional Engineering License preferred
