Position is responsible for the maintenance and functionality of the audio-visual needs of the Demonstration Theaters, Buhl Planetarium, and Rangos Giant Screen Cinema at Carnegie Science Center. This includes system operations during daily programs as well as after-hour events.  Position is responsible for training staff on the proper use of audio-visual equipment and maintaining user manuals and updating appropriate licenses as applicable. Position assists with maintenance and management of all AV systems and equipment to guarantee the quality and reliability of the audio-visual services provided.  Position frequently interacts with the public and both internal and external partners. 

QUALIFICATIONS

College or Technical degree preferred. Minimum two years' experience involving technical, audio visual, and lighting systems is required. Experience using cue-based software and sound boards is preferred. Experience in filming and camerawork is a plus. Must have excellent communication skills and ability to work with a variety of personalities to implement and deliver audio visual requirements for a diverse set of presentations and events in a variety of spaces.

This position requires a 'Can Do' attitude with the ability to troubleshoot and creatively solve problems on the spot.  Flexibility and professionalism to handle requests within department limitations are necessary.

Must be available for regular weekend work and frequent evening assignments, with self-supervision while working independently.

*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: *Job is mobile in nature.

  • Audio visual operations involve full mobility and dexterity needed to repair and set up equipment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to climb tall ladders and utilize multi-story lift equipment without hesitation to complete maintenance tasks.
  • Position works within spaces where foods are processed in facilities with nuts, eggs, and other dairy products and chemicals are utilized for science education.  

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Design and implement sound, AV, and lighting elements for new and existing programming.
  • Deliver small informational presentations to variable sized public audiences. For example: directions for theater seating, rules of space, how to use equipment, welcoming groups, etc.    
  • Maintain all AV, lighting, and sound equipment, making recommendations for upgrades, replacements, and conducting all scheduled maintenance.
  • Train staff on the proper use of all equipment and maintain user manuals updating as necessary.
  • Work with exhibit maintenance technicians to repair and maintain theater props, equipment, and other audio-visual equipment in the scope of practice.
  • Assist exhibit maintenance technicians in building turn on and off when required.
  • Work with internal departments to fulfill t e requirements of their programmatic events.  Including walking though theater spaces before the event, making recommendations, setting up prior to the event and remaining onsite during events.
  • Take down programmatic event setups and inventory and store equipment, keeping track of any equipment loaned to other areas of CMP. 
  • Assist with the development and editing of digital media needs of the theaters. 
  • Complete other projects as requested by management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
