UPMC Sr. Professional Ground Nurse (RN) - Community Life Team (Dauphin-Perry) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The Sr. Professional Critical Care Ground (CCG) Nurse will work as part of the critical care ground team. The Sr. Professional CCG Nurse will follow PA DOH BLS, ALS and CCG guidelines; and is responsible for the care of critically ill and injured patients. Responsibilities include patient care incorporating assessment, stabilization and intervention techniques consistent with standards and protocols approved by the Medical Director. The Sr. Professional CCG Nurse is expected to execute independent judgment, to deliver appropriate care that is consistent with the clinical protocols, when contact with a medical command physician is not possible. The Sr. Professional CCG Nurse fulfills education and experiential requirements as established by the Medical Director, and performs other duties as assigned. Supports and upholds the mission, goals, and objectives, of the STAT MedEvac and UPMC system at all times.
Documents appropriate assessment, interventions, and other pertinent patient information in a timely manner. Collects and promptly processes demographic, medical necessity, and other necessary billing information. Participates constructively in the peer-review driven quality improvement program. Adheres to the current uniform policy.
Performs all assigned duties, including daily, weekly, monthly, or other duties assigned by the base site manager, including (but not limited to): Performs daily equipment check (vehicle, medications) Ensures crew is logged onto computer duty roster Participates in shift report from off going crew Equipment checks Transport log Medication log
Ensures the safety of patients and all others. Utilizes appropriate safety channels to report safety concerns, and uses tools available to enhance a safe work environment. Reflects a positive attitude to the customer in a high stress environment at all times, with a clear understanding of who the customer is.
Demonstrates competency related to pharmacological interventions. Provide advanced life support to critically ill or injured patients in adherence with established protocols and standards of care; assessing online medical command or other resources when appropriate. Participates in developing and completing research projects. Ensures patient and family confidentiality and dignity at all times. Actively participates in the development and training of new staff.
Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice.Applies the nursing process within the framework of relationship based care to create a healing environment. Demonstrates a passion for developing others. Identifies opportunities for clinical quality as well as workplace improvement. Participates in scheduled and unscheduled outreach activities, representing the UPMC and STAT MedEvac system.
Maintains fitness for duty (if qualified as a flight crew member) by adhering to all employee health requirements, including maximum weight, hearing conservation program, and required medical screenings. Reports injuries and completes the appropriate documentation, no matter how minor, to a supervisor in a timely manner. Selects and uses personal protective equipment appropriate to the level of the anticipated hazard. Reports for work well rested, and fit for duty. Adhering to the drug and alcohol policy at all times. including prescription and/or over the counter medicine use.
Maintains clean patient environment as well as crew quarters Responds promptly and efficiently to all requests for service. Ensures safe operation of patient laden stretcher employing appropriate stretcher discipline at all times. Maintains safe loading, unloading, adjustment of head of stretcher, and stretcher movement. Completes all official documentation in a timely manner such as payroll, expense reports, orientation forms, etc. Adheres to rules for scheduling, including schedule requests, minimum time, and availability.
Three years clinical experience with a busy advanced life support or critical care ambulance service or critical care experience in a hospital setting.
RN applicants who have two years of experience and functioned previously as a Flight/Critical Care Transport Paramedic may be considered based on assessment of his/her role as a paramedic, years in the role and approval of a transition plan by the Medical Director (in accordance to CAMTS requirements).
Must be eligible to receive medical command authorization by the Medical Director, have reliable transportation, and be willing to travel to any STAT MedEvac base site as assigned.
Must be able to successfully complete the prescribed orientation program, including classroom, clinical rotations, educational competencies, and on the job training.
Must work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and specialized equipment. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Must obtain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on a Professional CCG Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted to this level.
Must maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual performance evaluation to maintain status.
Annual completion of an approved professional contribution.
Must have leadership approval for promotion.
Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
