Terracon Senior Staff Scientist for Asbestos/IH in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 29090BR Job Description Conduct  asbestos and IH assessments and surveys to sample, measure and analyze water, material, and soil.  Supervise or monitor projects in progress for the team to ensure that work is executed on time and in budget based on the approved scope of work and within company policies, procedures and standards. Prepare proposals and cost estimates to ensure proper scoping of services, availability of staff, and pricing to achieve desired profitability.  Other responsibilities include assisting the IH group manager and environmental department manager with the daily operations of the Asbestos/IH team related to staff training, development, and performance review, utilization of equipment and facilities, safety oversight, quality of services, and adherence to policies and procedure.  Candidate will also identify, evaluate and recommend risk and remediation strategies/designs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.  Prepare applicable permit applications, risk assessments and technical documents including reports and regulatory agency correspondence.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities: Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects.  Participate in pre-task planning.  Report any safety issues or concerns to management. Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects. Perform site visits, field observations and field data collection. Assist in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan, and permit projects. Conduct water, soil and other sampling. Implements technical requirements to complete client projects by directing field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities. Outlines required investigative program(s) by selecting the proper alternative techniques to conduct site studies in field of expertise. Drafts written proposals to clients for projects. Prepare reports and other technical documents. Manage and maintain client contact pertaining to specific projects, proposals, and tasks. Assists with management and supervision of team. Assists with development and execution of growth strategies, business development, and hiring plans. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: Physical ability to carry equipment up to 35 pounds, climb ladders, get in and out of basement and attic crawl spaces, etc. Oversee operation and maintenance of instruments including testing instruments, sampling pumps, calibrators, microscopes, etc. Periodic out-of-area travel for projects including some extended stays. Ability to work at State and Governmental facilities. Ability to work at Schools and other educational facilities. Ability to wear a respirator.Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related science field and a minimum 8 year related experience.  Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years' related experience.
