Job Summary:

The Senior Product Manager - Advanced Technologies will be responsible for leading ideation and crafting of unique solutions in the rail space. These solutions may be either internal facing to revolutionize an existing process or capability, or external facing to propel the rail, freight, passenger, mining, or logistics markets, and may lie on the spectrum of moonshot ideas to applications of AI/ML to process improvements and initiatives driven by the Digital Advanced Technologies (DAT) team. DAT is a cross-disciplined entrepreneurial group based out of the central CTO organization that carries out applied research in AI/ML, designs, and deploys cutting edge algorithms and new digital solutions in computer vision, predictive maintenance, autonomous, and robotics system throughout the Wabtec business portfolio with the mandate to innovate beyond the near term and into the two to three (2-3) plus year horizon. The Sr. Staff Innovation Product Manager will work closely with the Technical Data Science and ML Engineering teams to effectively build new technology minimum viable products while considering creative business models and strong commercial viability for scale.

The Senior Product Manager will embody the nimble and effective tenets of a lean start-up and will participate or own short, mid, and long-term initiatives that will include external partnerships with universities and start-ups. The Sr Staff Architect will have direct access to our customers to help influence innovation initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ideate innovative solutions to current and future problems in the rail and logistics domain

  • Engage with potential users, adjacent stakeholders, and others along a solution’s value chain to iterate and bolster its differentiation and value

  • Challenge and test the hypotheses that underlie current incumbent solutions vs proposed future concepts

  • Push the boundaries of supporting technologies and workflows to challenge creativity

  • Engage in active visioning and road-mapping to generate alternate concepts for how the future of railroading and the future of its supporting industries may evolve and then bring these back down to POC-capable concepts

  • Perform back-of-napkin modelling to directionally gut check assumptions

  • Market research involving primary and secondary sources

  • Work with UX team to further refine concepts

  • Balance focus evenly between hardware, software/SaaS, and locomotive solutions and strive to impact across all Wabtec business areas

  • Support other team members to validate and quantify the solutions, their market, business model, GTM, and value prop

  • Work with CTO’s in-house engineering/AI team to build POCs

  • Support other team members to ideate new business models and strategies for scaling innovation, initiatives, and products

  • Be engaged with Wabtec’s Commercial strategic organization for clear voice of customer and partnership

  • Be involved in external collaboration efforts with start-ups, incubators, and universities to grow Wabtec’s AI skill base and resource arm

  • Support others in developing creative, impactful, and scalable business models to accelerate adoption of new technologies in the rail industry.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Robotics or Computer Science from an accredited university or college, or relevant and significant industry experience

  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in a technology related business

  • Exposure to rail, logistics, or a related industry

  • Brought at least one innovative product to market (or brought an innovative solution into practice if not market focused) experience with innovating at least one solution that impacts multiple stakeholders

  • Three (3) plus years’ experience in product management, sales, digital solutions architecture, etc.

  • Highly self-directed and self-motivated

  • Organized with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines

  • Top-tier communication and presentation skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems

  • Demonstrated leadership in advancing the state of the art in a technical specialty
