Research Technician

The Shushruth Lab, at the Dept. of Neuroscience, University of Pittsburgh, is seeking a full-time research technician. Our lab focuses on understanding the neural basis of higher-order cognition and developing animal models of human cognitive deficits. We employ a broad array of techniques such as animal behavioral training, electrophysiology, molecular biology and computational modeling. Candidates with an academic background in neuroscience and/or experience working with large animals in research or veterinary settings are particularly encouraged to apply. Familiarity with coding in Matlab/Python desirable. The employee will work under close supervision of the PI and research specific hands-on training will be provided as needed.

Job Summary

Trains non-human primates and other large animals to facilitate research activities and assists with data collection. Assists in animal surgeries, clinical care, and routine veterinary procedures. Maintains laboratory spaces, completes all necessary documentation, and ensures compliance with all standards and regulations.

Essential Functions

Taking care of large NHPs, including daily transport of the animals back and forth between holding and experimental set up.

Physical Effort

Daily transfer of large NHPs (10-15kg) between home cage and transport boxes; two to eight times per day.
