Research Technician

The UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is seeking a Research Technician in the laboratory of Drs. Yuan Chang and Patrick Moore in the Cancer Virology Program. The Chang-Moore Lab investigates the mechanism of tumorigenesis induced by human polyomavirus and human papillomaviruses.

The successful candidate will be responsible for various tasks supporting the research laboratory: conducting molecular and cell biological experiments related to cancer virology, data collection, and record keeping. Basic laboratory maintenance will also be required: preparation of lab solutions, lab inventory keeping, equipment maintenance, ordering of lab supplies, and other support for lab personnel as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's of Science degree in a microbiology, as well as a general understanding of chemistry and lab procedures. At least one year of wet laboratory experience--in particular mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, and gene expression analysis--is preferred.

Job Summary

 

Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.

 

Essential Functions

Candidate must be able to operate laboratory instruments, pipets, and other equipment and to be familiar with computer software required to analyze scientific data.

Physical Effort

Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
