Post Doctoral.Post Doctoral.Associate Med-Ophthalmology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (24005724)

The Laboratory of Ocular Biomechanics, within the Ophthalmology Department at the University of Pittsburgh, is looking for strongly motivated applicants for a post-doc position on the mechanics of fibrous materials. The project can have experimental and computational components. Strong candidates with either will be considered. Expertise in both will be an asset. Experience in ophthalmology is not required. Experience with analyzing complex materials to distill their structure and behavior into understandable bits is an asset as well. A solid publication record and evidence of strong writing and presentation skills will be an advantage.

Duties or Responsibilities

o Development and validation of methods to study fibrous tissues. This includes computational, analytical, and experimental techniques.

Working with tissues for histology and imaging

Training, mentoring, and guiding other lab members and collaborators, from undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students, research assistants, clinicians, etc.

o Preparation of manuscripts, applications for fellowships, scholarships, grants, etc, that support the fellow directly or the laboratory (and the fellow indirectly)

o Assignments as may be necessary to contribute to the smooth functioning of the Laboratory of Ocular Biomechanics

Qualifications

o A PhD in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related. A strong record of peer-reviewed publications. Strong presentation skills. Evidence of being self-driven and interested in soft fibrous materials.
