The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, is seeking to hire a post-doctoral associate with a PhD. The post-doctoral associate will focus on the implementation of exercise oncology trials into clinical practice. This is an outstanding opportunity for a fellow interested in implementation science and exercise oncology. Dr. Schmitz and her team will teach the fellow through examples and experiential, mentored learning experiences over time. Further, fellows will be asked to write and submit at least three peer-reviewed manuscripts annually, mentored by Dr. Schmitz. These may include reviews on a topic of particular interest or preliminary analyses of data from ongoing or completed trials from the lab. There are also opportunities to lead pilot studies from which additional papers might arise.

Further, post-doctoral associates in this laboratory are expected to submit applications for external funding at least every six months until funding is acquired. Dr. Schmitz will serve as the primary mentor for these applications, reviewing and shaping initial ideas, reviewing specific aims pages, guiding the development of the research plan, and putting the post-doctoral associate in touch with appropriate grants administrative support for successful submission.

There is an opportunity for a post-doctoral associate to play a central role in the Moving Through Cancer initiative, gathering data, writing papers, and making presentations nationally, if that is of interest. Dr. Schmitz would include him/her in all ongoing activities of the MTC initiative. There is also an opportunity to play a large role in the UPMC Hillman Moving Through Cancer Quality Improvement initiative.

Successful applicants will hold a Ph.D. in behavioral science, exercise science, nursing science, public health, or related disciplines.
