Overall Summary

• The project will focus on investigating the role of cellular senescence in driving intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) in a genetic mouse model. Specifically, P21- and P16-mediated cellular senescence pathways will be dissected to determine their relative contributions to IDD. Conduct cell culture of disc tissues derived from p21 and p16 genetic reporter mouse models and analyze IDD in these mice.

Duties or Responsibilities

• Assist in performing in vitro and in vivo experiments to study disc cellular senescence and IDD.

• Contribute to data processing, data analysis, and interpretation of results.

• Write abstracts and manuscript based upon the results.

• The position with also work with our collaborators during the research project to ensure that relevant data analyses are being performed.

Expectations or Standards

• Develop skills in rodent spine and disc microdissection

• Develop skills in histological, immuno-histological, and biochemical assays to assess IDD

• Experience with analyzing research data

• Interact actively with co-workers in the lab.

• Attend weekly lab meetings.

• Present research findings at lab meetings.
