The Department of Bioengineering is seeking Post Doctoral Associate in the Wagner Lab.
Research will include the following: The development of biomaterials for applications in soft tissue disease settings with particular emphasis on cardiovascular disease. Synthesis and characterization of step-growth and addition polymers, particularly biodegradable polyurethanes and thermoresponsive, synthetic hydrogels e.g. N-isopropyl acrylamides containing polymers. Development of composite materials with synthetic polymers and bioactive molecules as well as extracellular matrix-derived materials. Processing of materials into formats for in vivo applications patches, conduits, injectables, valves, etc.. Use of electrohydrodynamic processing and other solvent-based approaches. Culture of various cell types and integration of cells with above-mentioned materials. Characterization of in vitro and in vivo response to implants by histology, imaging, RNA, etc.
Incumbent will also work with surgeons on implementing approaches for material and medical device testing, regular report, manuscript and proposal writing, presentations to peers on results, and working with collaborators on related projects.
The desired candidate will have a PhD in polymer science, chemical engineering, bioengineering, chemistry, or related fields. Candidate should have experience in polymer synthesis, characterization experience, polymer processing, knowledge of the biomaterials field, and biocompatibility principles. Candidate should also have experience in publishing scientific literature, cell culture, bioassays, and collecting and analyzing histological data.
