University of Pittsburgh Post Doctoral Associate- Dr. Afonso Silva's Laboratory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Post Doctoral Associate- Dr. Afonso Silva's Laboratory Med-Neurobiology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (24005947)

The Department of Neurobiology at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to apply physics and computational methods to analyze anatomical and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), computerized tomography (CT), and confocal and multiphoton optical imaging datasets of animal models of brain function and neurodegenerative diseases.

The Silva Lab in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Pittsburgh has an opening for a postdoctoral research associate with expertise in the analysis of multimodal preclinical imaging, including anatomical (structural) MRI, functional MRI, diffusion MRI, PET, CT, and confocal and multiphoton optical imaging. The successful candidate will be involved in NIH-funded projects that use multimodal imaging approaches to study small animal models of brain function and neurodegenerative diseases. The candidate will have responsibilities to implement denoising methods to process and analyze multimodal neuroimaging data obtained from rodent and non-human primate models of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and stroke. Demonstrated knowledge and application of imaging techniques such as functional MRI, anatomical imaging/volumetric analysis, diffusion tensor imaging, PET, or CT is necessary. An individual skilled in processing preclinical neuroimaging data is highly desired.

This position requires knowledge and ability to develop and program (code) software algorithms to process multimodal neuroimaging data, with emphasis on the use of denoising algorithms for noise reduction and elimination. The individual will also be required to maintain laboratory compliance and regulations pertinent to the use of animals and environmental health and safety. The incumbent must be detail-oriented and have excellent communication skills. They will interact with various levels of faculty, research staff, and students to provide imaging services. The capability to work independently and conduct research, acquire neuroimaging data, perform image denoising, processing, and analysis, prepare oral presentations, and write manuscripts, grants, and research protocols will be integral to the position.

Applicants must have a PhD in neuroscience, engineering, or any other relevant field and at least one year of experience analyzing preclinical neuroimaging datasets. Applicants must have demonstrated skills in imaging processing and analysis (especially anatomical, functional, and diffusion MRI). Expertise and a publication record in performing analysis of preclinical neuroimaging data is preferred. Priority will be given to applicants with expertise in machine learning and conventional model-based algorithms to denoise neuroimaging data. Vaccinations and regular TB testing will be required. Experience with Bruker platforms (ParaVision 360) is an advantage. Candidates must be US citizens, permanent US residents, or possess a US working permit.

Interested candidates should attach a brief statement of research interests and CV to requisition #24005947.
