Laboratory Technician

 

The Vasudevan lab is seeking a well-qualified, motivated and intellectually curious person for the role of lab technician. The incumbent will primarily perform experimental research under the guidance of the PI.

The ideal candidate will have some experience required for execution of the project including cell culture/RNA prep/library preparation/NGS data analysis etc, but training will be provided so experience is not mandatory. Bioinformatics experience will be prioritized. The work will require a high degree of organization, attention to detail, and substantial degree of independence post-training. Compensation will scale with experience.

Bachelor's degree in Biology/Bioinformatics or a related field is preferred. Research experience is necessary but additional training will be provided.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.

Essential Functions

The incumbent must be able to operate laboratory equipment, microscopes, and computers, in a safe and accurate manner. Must have excellent communication skills to document and record their work and communicate it to other lab members & faculty. Must be capable of physically manipulating laboratory equipment and chemicals safely.

Physical Effort

The incumbent will be expected to maintain a schedule that promotes interaction with the PI. The position will require some ability to ambulate between laboratory rooms to access equipment. S/he may require to stand or sit for extended periods at the bench, and have sufficient motor dexterity to carry out fine dissections. There may be occasional need to move heavy equipment (<30 lbs) for lab organization purposes.
