Laboratory Research Technician
2025 Tech Position:Job Summary:
We are recruiting a staff member to join the Electron Microscopy EM team within the Center for Biologic Imaging at the University of Pittsburgh. This position assumes no prior experience in EM and it is hoped that the position will allow the successful applicant to take advantage of the opportunity to learn and apply all aspects of modern digital electron microscopy. The main functions of this position are sample processing for conventional EM sample embedding and sectioning and use of our electron microscopes. The successful applicant will work with users under the supervision of the EM lab manager to complete projects and provide interpretation of morphology and structures within samples. Prior qualifications include an enthusiasm to learn a true curiosity and interest in science and a bachelor's degree in a relevant field biology, cell biology or other.

Job Summary
Performs a variety of laboratory experiments and procedures. Prepares specimens. Oversees supply management. Operates and properly maintains equipment.
Essential Functions
The candidate must be able to think critically and be cognizant of chemical reactions for their own safety and for the safety of other lab personnel. This individual must be able to lift, mix and carry volatile, at times hazardous materials with assistance. Must be able to recognize dangerous situations and be able to respond to them.
Physical Effort
Normal walking within the laboratory will be necessary, as well as minor lifting of chemicals and other laboratory items.
