Laboratory Research Technician IV

 

The Byrne Lab at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Ophthalmology department is looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time Laboratory Technician IV to conduct mouse animal research.

A bachelor's degree in biology, or a similarly related scientific field, as well as prior experience with mouse research is required.

Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.

Essential Functions

Duties will include animal husbandry tasks, including the breeding, handling, and care of mice, as well as genotyping. The ideal candidate will have experience with performing therapeutic injections into mouse eyes, as well as conducting mouse visual assessments such as electroretinography (ERG) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). All applicants should be highly motivated and able to work independently, have excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, and adhere to the highest standards of animal care and research integrity.

Physical Effort

Must be able to sit or stand, walk, bend, and stoop for long periods of time, as well as grasp small objects using fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks, and lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 20 pounds.
